First Black Hole Picture
The first image of a black hole shows a bright ring with a dark, central spot. That ring is a bright disk of gas orbiting the supermassive behemoth in the galaxy M87. The spot is the black hole’s shadow.
First Photograph from Space
It was year 1946 and the soldiers and scientists at the Sands Missile range sent a 35mm motion picture camera with a V-2 missile. At a distance of 65 miles altitude, it took the images. The missile crash-landed, however it was cased in a steel enclosure. Although this was not the first time, the curvature was discovered. In 1935, the Explorer II balloon reached an altitude of 13.7 miles and observed the spherical horizon. Eleven years later, the V-2 missile provided the first shots of the Earth against the black vastness of space.
First Colour Photo
Sir James Clerk Maxwell on May 17, 1861 shot the world’s first photograph. Taken at Royal Institution, it showed a tartan ribbon and Thomas Sutton developed the photograph according to a three-colour method that Maxwell proposed in 1855.
First Selfie
“Selfie” is a modern name for self-taken photograph. The trend is not current but the practice is old. Robert Cornelius took his photograph way back in 1839. A family store in Philadelphia clicked the iconic selfie. He removed the lens cap, held a pose with arms crossed. On the back of the photo Cornelius wrote, “The first light picture ever taken. 1839.”
First Underwater Photograph
William Thomson in Dorset UK attempted World’s first underwater photography. In 1856 he used a wet collodion glass plate camera to create the photo. French Zoologist Louis Boutan in 1893 shot the image considered as first underwater photograph, where both the camera and the photographer were underwater. Some sources claim that the portrait was captured at a depth of 164 feet.
