India’s First: Made-in-India Howitzer ATAGS for 21-Gun Salute on Indian Independence Day celebrations

Indeed a proud moment for India as the first entirely Made-In-India indigenous gun ATAGS readies for the ceremonial 21-Gun Salute. Until now there were all British guns used till now.

Home made Howitzer gun, ATAGS( Advanced Towed Artillery Gun System) prototype, is developed under the Government’s Make in India’ initiative. The indigenous gun shall be used for the 21-gun salute at the Indian Independence Day Celebrations at the historic Red Fort on August 15th morning. Indian Independence day is special as it celebrates the country’s 75th or Diamond Jubilee. As is customary, Prime Minister Narendra Modi shall hurl the flag and lead the celebrations from the iconic Red Fort. DRDO research team is the brainchild behind Made-in-India Howitzer ATAGS. This Gun is a stamp of India’s capacity to develop its own arms and ammunitions. In considerations of the Independence ceremony, ATAGS is also customized as per the ceremony.

India selects Made-in-India Howitzer ATAGS for 21-Gun Salute

It is indeed a moment of pride and honour for India as it has chosen Made-In-India ATAGS for its ceremonial 21 gun salute. A piece of art and a world class, it fires the Bimodular charge system in Zone 7. One can judge it finesse from the fact that no other gun in the world is known to have that capability yet. It is a 155mm calibre Gun System and has a shooting range of 48 kms. Given below are some other features of the system.

The project of ATAGS began in 2013 and the objective was single handedly aimed at replacing older guns in service in Indian army..

Besides Howitzer ATAGS Gun, there are special functions for 75th Independence Day
