On the 75th Independence Day, lets embrace the privileges we have for living under a free country. And take a pledge of making it prosperous and glorified.
I studied in a convent school, but was blessed to be born to parents who taught me to thank our country always. So in way I stayed modern for the world, but the values were traditional. My mother would narrate us both brothers stories of great martyrs. Listening to those stories and what they had to go through would make my blood boil. I remember crying for hours. As a proud Indian, we would hoist our tricolour or Tiranga( A flag made of 3 colours). Whole family would watch the parade. At that time, we were naïve to know the meaning of Independence, and we just rejoiced as it was our holiday. With time we understood where we were before independence and it is our job as the country’s youth to see the change happen. I know all the activities will happen this year as well, but it is time to ponder the value of independence we got 75 years back. So What does Independence mean? I can sum this up in one word ‘PRIDE’. However, the independence just didn’t happen overnight. There have been sacrifices, bloodshed and sweat of countrymen so that we could breath freely under an open sky.
Hoisting the Indian Tricolour is an Honour on Indian Independence Day
For me the respect and feelings for Nation, National Anthem and Flag is supreme. Not even once has my love for the country lessened even during my stay abroad. You can’t imagine my joy when I rose up for our national Anthem on the occasion of India Day at our University in US. Although patriotic sentiments are high, their meanings evolve. So for me Independence means ensuring everyone has equal rights, freedom means abolishing of menaces like child labour, poverty, and corruption. Independence provides opportunity to express and experience something new. But freedom should not be taken as the will to exploit resources for merry-making. And for my Tricolour, I consider it as my Honour and for which I salute every single day. For me the colours Saffron, White, Green and Blue are symbols of Purity, Peace, Prosperity and Probity.
Indian Independence Day signifies living your life and make every moment count
Independence Day gives you the right to fight for what you believe in. Ensure that everyone lives in harmony and taking responsibility for your actions. I take a moment to bow and salute all the great warriors who laid their lives during our freedom struggle and continue to do so now. It would be wrong not to honour the unsung heroes who worked day and night.
