Twitter goes Instagram way – plans to introduce ‘Close Friends’ like feature, tentatively called ‘Twitter Flock’

Twitter and Instagram new feature

Twitter will soon let you share posts only with a group of close friends – a feature that the netizens were asking for a long time. It is going to be similar to Instagram’s Close Friends feature. In others words, you’ll be limiting your tweets to your “Flock.”

It is believed that you will be able to add up to 150 members. Only these users can view or reply to tweets sent out to your Flock. You will also be able to remove people from this list at any time, and they won’t get a notification.

Twitter first gave us a glimpse of the feature last July, which was called “Trusted Friends” at the time.

Twitter Flock is one of the most anticipated features

Twitter will show an option to select its intended audience, before you hit the send button. It has similarities with Communities, a feature Twitter launched last year that lets people share discussions on a specific topic.

Flock shouldn’t be confused with “Fleets,” the ephemeral tweet option that was designed to compete with Instagram Stories, Facebook Stories, Snapchat, and more. Fleets never caught on with Twitter users and the company canned the feature in August, less than a year after the feature launched.

If you’re in someone’s Flock and they send out a tweet, a label may appear beneath that tweet, reading: “You can see this Tweet because the author has added you to their Flock.”

Flock is still in the beta stage and there is no confirmation yet on when it will finally be launched.
