Sania Mirza and Bopanna lost in the Australian Open Final 2023 yesterday. Indian pair lost in straight sets in the year’s first grand slam of the year in straight sets. Indian ace broke down a couple of times during her speech expressing what the tournament meant for her. Recalling her memories, she expressed how she was as scared playing now as much as she played in 2005. That was the first time and she remembered facing the mighty Serena in the third round.
Indian Tennis star had been a star since the time she started. She broke many barriers as she climbed the ladder to become the highest ranked Indian Tennis woman player.
Although, she could not reach the top in singles, she compensated it through her epic run in the doubles. Her pairing with Martina Hingis was the best phase of her career, as the duo rose it to the top. Also, in 2016 they set a world record, when they won their 29th consecutive women’s double match at the final of WTA Sydney International. Sania was a force to reckon with in both women’s and mixed doubles. Her baseline game and strong forehand strengthened her hold of the game and helped her reach to the top. In spite of not having won a single Grand Slam, she won six doubles Grand Slams, three each of women’s and Mixed.

Sania Mirza fought back tears as she bid adieu to her favourite tournament. However, it was a dream run for the Indian pair in the year’s first tournament. Unseeded Indian duo of Sania and Bopanna defeated the third seeds Desirae Krawczyk and Neal Skupski 7-6(5), 6-7(5), and 10-6 in the quarter final. In their quarterfinal encounter, the duo had a walkover.
