Indian Duo Chirag Shetty and Satwiksairaj defeated Japan’s pair Yugo Kobayashi and Takuro Hoki in the quarterfinals of the men’s doubles in the BWF World Championships.

Riding high on their gold medal finish in the recently concluded Commonwealth games, the Indian duo added another feather to their resume. Carrying the same momentum forward, the pair beat the Japan’s duo of Yugo Kobayashi and Takuro Hoki in three games to proceed to the semi-finals. Indian duo beat their Japanese rivals 24-22, 15-21, 21-14 in the quarterfinals of the men’s doubles in the BWF World Championships. In doing so Chirag-Satwik Script History by securing the country’s first Medal. Although each game turned out a close affair, but the first game went to the wire. It turned a nail-biter with both teams didn’t let each other dominate. Finally, Chirag and Satwiksairaj held their nerve. Chirag made an error, making the score line 22-22, but it was his cross from midcourt that helped India take the first game.

Indian pair could not keep up with the same pace and lost focus in the game. With the score at 11-9, the Indians were on a way to a convincing victory. However, Japanese dup came strong and held nerves to win it 21-15 and take the game to a decider. India pulled up in the third games and didn’t let their opponents any take charge as they sealed the match and a place in the semi-finals. In doing so Chirag-Satwik script history and assured themselves of a world championship medal. In doing so India assured themselves of their first doubles medal at the World Championships.

The Indian pair not only reached the quarter-final of the All England Open, but also have reached in the final stages of many tournaments. They also had a major role in the India’s win at the Thomas Cup recently. India beat favourite Indonesia to lift Thomas Cup. The duo role had been phenomenal during the doubles matches for the team.
