A healthy breakfast is important to kick-start your child’s day. It is also important for the brain development and academic performance of a kid.

Kids who eat breakfast tend to make healthier choices when it comes to food in general and has more energy to burn, making them more likely to take part in different activities. Those who do not eat breakfast tend to become hungry by mid-morning and as a result, snack or overeat. This leads to weight issues. So, breakfast essentially helps keep your child’s weight in check.

Idlis with sambar or just plain phulkas with curd may be boring for kids. So, adding a simple twist to the traditional Indian breakfast recipes will not only be flavorful but also visually appealing to your kids.

Here is a list of 5 yummy and healthy Indian breakfast recipes for your kids to relish. Keep scrolling!

1. Oats Idly

Place a bowl of gooey oatmeal in front of the kid and you will get an “eww” or “yuck” in return! When kids don’t like oatmeal, you give them oats idly, a healthy and tasty (slightly modified) vegetarian dish from the South.

Being low in calories, it is an ideal choice for calorie-conscious. Oats are rich in proteins, minerals, vitamins and, fiber, which adds to their nutritive value without compromising on their deliciousness.

They say cricket is a gentlemen’s game but in recent past ladies have also made their presence felt on the field with their skills and competence. There are a few women cricketers who now enjoy a worldwide following not just because of their cricketing skills but also because of their looks.

Let’s take a look at few of them –

Sarah Taylor, England

One of the most naturally-talented players in the world, Sarah Taylor became a sensation in 2006 with a run-a-ball 61 in her fourth ODI against India and a maiden century followed early the next year against Australia in Chennai.

In the course of her career, Taylor played key roles in some of England Women’s most memorable triumphs, including the World Cup and World T20 double in 2009.

Smriti Mandhana, India

Smriti Mandhana has no regrets giving up science in school to pursue a career in cricket. She is the second Indian cricketer to feature in a foreign T20 league, has a World Cup century against her name, another one in Australia, a double ton in domestic one-day competition. And she achieved all of that at the age of 20!

Katherine Brunt, England

Katherine Helen Brunt is an English cricketer who currently plays for Yorkshire, Northern Diamonds, Trent Rockets and England. She plays as a right-arm fast bowler and right-handed lower-order batter. Cricket is in Katherine Brunt’s blood – she first played the game through joining in the nets with her brother at the family’s club, Barnsley. Her father also played for the same club.

Kainat Imtiaz, Pakistan

Kainat Imtiaz is a Pakistani cricketer. She is an all-rounder, batting right-handed and bowling right-arm medium-fast. She has also played domestic cricket for Karachi, Sindh, Omar Associates, Saif Sports Saga, State Bank of Pakistan and Zarai Taraqiati Bank Limited.

Cecelia Joyce, Ireland

Cecelia Joyce is an Irish cricketer. She has played right-handed batter and leg break bowler for Ireland. She played in her final match for Ireland in November 2018, during the 2018 ICC Women’s World Twenty20 tournament.

Ellyse Perry, Australia

Ellyse Perry is one of the dominant players in women cricket. She debuted in the second ODI of the Rose Bowl series against New Zealand in July 2007, before her 17th birthday, despite never having played a domestic match at the senior level.

By the time Perry had made her Test debut against England in 2008, she had already made headlines. It was her bowling that proved her stronger suit, and she picked up her maiden five-wicket haul in an ODI against New Zealand in February 2010.

11 Tips for Career Success

Tips for Career Success
Tips for Career Success

What is career success? Well, it depends on who you ask. Each of us defines it differently. The one thing all of us have in common is that, given the amount of time we spend at work, we want to at least like what we’re doing every day. Life is either too long or too short to spend time in jobs we hate. We also want to be appreciated by our bosses and co-workers and not cave into job stress. Here are 11 tips that can help you get started on your way to having a successful and satisfying career.

Choose Your Occupation Wisely

Before you decide to pursue any career, ask yourself this question: “Can I see myself doing this all day, every day, for many years?” When you choose an occupation, make sure it’s a good match for your personality, interests, aptitudes, and work-related values. Learn as much as you can about yourself by conducting a complete self-assessment. Do extensive career research about the occupation you are considering to learn about job duties, qualifications, earnings, and employment outlook.

Don’t Let Anyone Tell You What Choice Is Best for You

Ignore those who say, “Pick this field because it has lots of opportunities right now,” or “You will make loads of money so it doesn’t matter if you hate your job,” or “I like this career and therefore you will too.” Although they may be well-meaning, these statements are among the many myths about career choice. All ignore one important thing: your career choice is a personal decision that will have a significant effect on your life for many years. Oh, and by the way, the relationship between earnings and job satisfaction is minimal.

Measure Your Own Success

How do you define success? Is it the size of your paycheck or having the corner office? Is it the feeling you get when you know you did a great job on a project (praise from the boss doesn’t hurt) or the one you get when you know you helped someone? Perhaps you feel successful after putting in a day at work and coming home at a reasonable hour to spend time with your family. Since each of us measures success differently, you are the only one who can decide what it means to you. Your satisfaction with your career is strongly linked to whether you feel you have met your own goals, not someone else’s.

Don’t Be Afraid to Ask for Help

Personal perspective reaching for hand of rock climber

As much as you think you know, you don’t know it all. There are people with more experience than you, and with that experience comes knowledge. To get access to it, you need experienced colleagues, in addition to your peers, in your network. Establish a relationship with a mentor who can guide you through your career. In addition to advising you on how to advance, a mentor can help you learn about an occupation you are considering, get the lowdown on an employer before a job interview, and solve problems at work.

Always Acknowledge People Who Help You

It may sound simple to acknowledge those who offer assistance, but it’s genuinely a significant gesture. Whether someone gives you five minutes of their time or introduces you to a potential employer, it’s important to let that person know that it meant something to you. And when they or someone else needs help, return the favor. Consider it good karma.

Own Your Mistakes

Everybody makes mistakes. Even if you try hard not to, it will happen at some point. Of course, you will do what you can to avoid making a grave error, but sometimes they happen, despite your best efforts. While your instinct may be to run away and hide, that is the worst thing you can do. Admitting your error, finding a way to fix it, or at least taking an action that mitigates its effects, will help restore your reputation.

Be Your Own Cheerleader

Root for yourself. If you aren’t your own biggest fan, who will be? Take note of and pride in all your successes and positive attributes. Don’t wait for someone else to tell you “job well done!” Reflecting on your achievements will spur you on to accomplish even greater ones.

Don’t Beat Yourself Up

From time to time a little voice inside your head will whisper (hopefully not shout) that you aren’t good enough or smart enough. That’s the voice you need to shut out. Unfortunately, there will be plenty of people quite willing to bring you down. Don’t do it to yourself, too. When you make a mistake, admit it, fix it, and move on. If you are missing a skill or have some other shortcoming, take the necessary measures to improve.

Never Feel Like You Are Stuck

No matter how careful you are about choosing the “right” career or job, someday you may want to make a change. You will probably be able to come up with a bunch of reasons not to do it (change is scary) but consider it anyway. Take this saying to heart: “If you don’t like where you are, move. You are not a tree.”

Lose the Negative Attitude

Some people see only the negative side of things and always find something about which to complain. Don’t be that person. You will bring yourself and everyone else down. A negative attitude saps your energy. Don’t ignore problems, but instead of just complaining, look for ways to fix them.

Listen More Than You Speak

You can learn a lot by listening, and you could miss a lot if you don’t. Whether your boss is explaining a project to you or telling you about his weekend, it’s important to understand what he is saying. Careful listening will prevent misunderstanding and help you build rapport with others.

In many ways, having a successful career is less about what you choose to do, and more about how you do it. These tips are easy for anyone to apply in any field. Practicing these habits will set you up for success, regardless of your career path.

Bollywood memes factory into overdrive as the industry gives a thumps up to this potent tool

The memes are no longer considered as an underrated tool to make a point in the digital era. Instead, they have become one of the most potent social media tools that connect instantly with the masses – and liked by everyone looking to make a mass appeal – politicians and Bollywood celebrities in particular.

They get the average Indian clued to social, political and cultural issues, while guffawing at the absurdity of public life and that makes them so special. Bollywood has surely learn the fine art of using memes to its advantage, though there are some gaps too that still need to be filled.

Meme on Priyanka Chopra

An important phenomenon in contemporary culture

Memes reflect and shape the general mindset. Bollywood has discovered the potential of memes and there are concerted efforts now to create a new, partial narrative about a movie, web series or a lead actor – male or female.

In the recent past, there has been a flurry of memes related to web series like ‘The Family Man’ or a Bollywood blockbusters like ‘Shershah’ that helped create a favourable buzz. The content of played a key role – content that connected with the life of an ordinary Indian grappling with the day-to-day challenges of real life.

A two-edged sword

Memes as the language of social media, and a means for social commentary have emerged as an effective tool against surveillance and curbs on free speech. Memes have made opinion-making egalitarian, inclusive and democratic.

It is also true that meme-making is a minimum-energy activity, in most cases hence they become more effective specially for the promotion of a movie. There is also a chance of a meme failing to find its mark, which could be counterproductive.

Internet gives you converging knowledge, rather than diverging knowledge. Internet has been good at some low-level of information creation. Bollywood has also discovered the other side of memes the hard way.

Parody, satire and irony are a huge part of meme culture and are integral to their impact and circulation. Memes will evolve with time like any other digital media tool and that will give them that much needed image makeover that changes fortunes.

Even today, everyone is loving them, specially the Bollywood.

Resume Writing Tips for Veterans

skills to be put in resume
skills to be put in resume

Figuring out the right skills for a resume isn’t easy. After all, your skills are what will get you hired, but which ones are considered good skills to put on a resume that will help you stand out?

Hiring managers want to make sure they’re picking the right person for the job, so don’t rush through this part. You probably spent hours perfecting your work experience section, and you need to do the same with your resume skills section. It’s not just a laundry list of skills that no one reads—knowing which to include and which to leave off can help convince hiring managers to interview you.

These tips can help you determine which skills to put on a resume and also help you optimize this crucial section to attract the eyes of discerning hiring managers.

Types of Skills for a Resume

There are two categories of good skills for a resume: hard and soft skills. Both need to shine.

Hard skills are skills learned through experience or education and generally produce measurable results. For example, hard skills for an accountant could include cash management, financial analysis, and financial reporting.

Soft skills, on the other hand, are more like personality traits and characteristics that determine your work style. Think communication skills, emotional intelligence, problem-solving skills, the ability to work in a team, and initiative.

You might think employers are focused only on job-related hard skills, but soft skills are equally—if not more—essential. Soft skills routinely top lists of attributes employers seek on applicant resumes.

Both hard and soft skills should be included on a resume, as both types are highly valued in all industries.

How to Choose Skills to Put on a Resume

The skills section provides an overview of your top skills for human readers and also helps with keyword searching by applicant tracking systems. These tips explain how to figure out the right skills for a resume:

1. Look at job ads. The best way to get started finding good skills to put on a resume is to search jobs on Monster and review several postings for your target job. Look at the job descriptions and write a list of frequently repeated skills.

2. Next, identify your matching skills. Keep in mind you develop skills in everything from work experience to education, training, hobbies, extracurricular activities, volunteer work, and self-study. Once you know where your skills overlap with the job’s qualifications, incorporate these valuable keywords on your resume.

3. Research your target employer. Another way to find keywords? Check out their website and social media posts, paying attention to the descriptive words they use to describe their company, brand, and employees. Use those words on your resume to indicate you’d be a good cultural fit.

Don’t Lie About Your Skill Set

Be honest when choosing the skills to list on a resume. It’s tempting to include an in-demand skill to get the keyword in your resume, but you will have to prove your claim during the interview process or after you’re hired.

You don’t need to include a competency level for each skill on your resume, but calling out your skill level is an option. Use this as a guide:

Beginner: A novice understanding of the skill. You have exposure to the skill and understand basic concepts, but you lack experience. For transparency, there’s nothing wrong with writing “beginner” in parentheses next to the skill.

Intermediate: Between a beginner and an expert. You have experience with and can carry out the skill, but you don’t understand advanced concepts. For this level skill, you normally wouldn’t need a qualifier.

Expert: A highly developed skill level. You have solid experience and training with the skill and understand advanced concepts. To draw attention to a crucial skill, write “expert” in parentheses next to the skill. If you’re an expert in your entire skills list, call the section “expertise.”

Examples of Skills for a Resume

Here are some skills for a resume that will never go out of style:

  • Problem solving
  • Teamwork
  • Work ethic
  • Written and verbal communication
  • Leadership
  • Detail-oriented
  • Computer and technical skills

Of course, you can’t forget about specialty and industry-specific skills. Take a look at some examples of skills for three different job titles and you’ll get an understanding of the kind of mix of hard and soft skills employers like to see.

Skills for an event coordinator:

  • Event production and management
  • Conference and meeting planning
  • Social media marketing
  • Vendor negotiations
  • Brand strategy alignment
  • Client and VIP relations
  • Venue and travel coordination
  • Skills for an IT project manager:
  • Project lifecycle management
  • Enterprise implementations
  • Systems migrations
  • Project scheduling
  • Teambuilding and leadership
  • Project budgeting and cost controls
  • Quality assurance
  • Skills for a personal trainer:
  • 1-on-1 personal training
  • Group fitness instruction
  • Client goal-setting and motivation
  • Customized exercise and meal plans
  • Strength and conditioning
  • Cardiovascular and endurance training
  • Pilates and bootcamp-style workouts
  • Where and How to Add Skills to Your Resume

Now that you’ve identified good skills to put on a resume, it’s time to add them to yours. You can call this section “skills” or create similar heading, such as “expertise” or “proficiencies.”

Select 10 to 15 skills. A short, targeted list will be more effective than one that’s long and overwhelming.

Start the section below your career summary. A good place for your skills section is below your career summary or weaved into the summary, but there’s no hard-and-fast rule—place it where it works best for your resume’s design.

A symmetrical listing is most pleasing to the eyes. Consider a two-column list with five to six skills per column or a three-column list with five skills per column. Another option is centering the list and using symbols between skills as separators.

Specialized skills can be separate. Skills for resumes in specialized fields could be grouped in their own section, such as a technology or language skills section.

Customize. If you have more than one career goal, modify the skills section for each of your job targets.

For career changers: One should add transferable skills to the skills section to draw attention to skills necessary for a new career goal.

Provide Examples of Skills in Action

Now it’s time to think beyond your resume’s skills section. After all, anyone can say they have a certain skill, but it’s more powerful to include examples of your skills in action. Prove your skills by tying them to specific accomplishments.

For example, if an accountant wanted to prove they have strong communication skills, the “work experience” section could include accomplishments showing use of the skill, such as facilitating training sessions, collaborating across departments, or authoring a month-close instruction manual.

A resume skills section is a snapshot of the talents you offer, whereas the experience section includes details of how you used the skill to achieve beneficial outcomes.

Make Your Resume Skills Shine

Knowing the right skills for a resume is key to getting an interview call. Be proud of all you have to offer a company. After all, it’s not like you magically developed all those skills overnight. Want to make sure your resume works as hard for you as you do for others? Get a free resume evaluation today from Monster. With your skills front and center, your odds of getting called in for an interview will be better than ever.

The Diabetes Diet

Healthy eating can help you prevent, control, and even reverse diabetes. And with these tips, you can still enjoy your food without feeling hungry or deprived.

What’s the best diet for diabetes?

Whether you’re trying to prevent or control diabetes, your nutritional needs are virtually the same as everyone else, so no special foods are necessary. But you do need to pay attention to some of your food choices—most notably the carbohydrates you eat. While following a Mediterranean or other heart-healthy diet can help with this, the most important thing you can do is to lose a little weight.

Losing just 5% to 10% of your total weight can help you lower your blood sugar, blood pressure, and cholesterol levels. Losing weight and eating healthier can also have a profound effect on your mood, energy, and sense of wellbeing. People with diabetes have nearly double the risk of heart disease and are at a greater risk of developing mental health disorders such as depression.

But most cases of type 2 diabetes are preventable and some can even be reversed. Even if you’ve already developed diabetes, it’s not too late to make a positive change. By eating healthier, being more physically active, and losing weight, you can reduce your symptoms. Taking steps to prevent or control diabetes doesn’t mean living in deprivation; it means eating a tasty, balanced diet that will also boost your energy and improve your mood. You don’t have to give up sweets entirely or resign yourself to a lifetime of bland food.

The biggest risk for diabetes: belly fat

Being overweight or obese is the biggest risk factor for type 2 diabetes. However, your risk is higher if you tend to carry your weight around your abdomen as opposed to your hips and thighs. A lot of belly fat surrounds the abdominal organs and liver and is closely linked to insulin resistance. You are at an increased risk of developing diabetes if you are:

A woman with a waist circumference of 35 inches or more

A man with a waist circumference of 40 inches or more

Calories obtained from fructose (found in sugary beverages such as soda, energy and sports drinks, coffee drinks, and processed foods like doughnuts, muffins, cereal, candy and granola bars) are more likely to add weight around your abdomen. Cutting back on sugary foods can mean a slimmer waistline as well as a lower risk of diabetes.

Planning a diabetes diet

A diabetic diet doesn’t have to be complicated and you don’t have to give up all your favorite foods. The first step to making smarter choices is to separate the myths from the facts about eating to prevent or control diabetes.

Myths and facts about diabetes and diet

Myth: You must avoid sugar at all costs.

Fact: You can enjoy your favorite treats as long as you plan properly and limit hidden sugars. Dessert doesn’t have to be off limits, as long as it’s a part of a healthy meal plan.

Myth: You have to cut way down on carbs.

Fact: The type of carbohydrates you eat as well as serving size is key. Focus on whole grain carbs instead of starchy carbs since they’re high in fiber and digested slowly, keeping blood sugar levels more even.

Myth: You’ll need special diabetic meals.

Fact: The principles of healthy eating are the same—whether or not you’re diabetic. Expensive diabetic foods generally offer no special benefit.

Myth: A high-protein diet is best

Fact: Studies have shown that eating too much protein, especially animal protein, may actually cause insulin resistance, a key factor in diabetes. A healthy diet includes protein, carbohydrates, and fats. Our bodies need all three to function properly. The key is a balanced diet.

As with any healthy eating program, a diabetic diet is more about your overall dietary pattern rather than obsessing over specific foods. Aim to eat more natural, unprocessed food and less packaged and convenience foods.

Eat more

Healthy fats from nuts, olive oil, fish oils, flax seeds, or avocados.

Fruits and vegetables—ideally fresh, the more colorful the better; whole fruit rather than juices.

High-fiber cereals and breads made from whole grains.

Fish and shellfish, organic chicken or turkey.

High-quality protein such as eggs, beans, low-fat dairy, and unsweetened yogurt.

Eat less

Packaged and fast foods, especially those high in sugar, baked goods, sweets, chips, desserts.

White bread, sugary cereals, refined pastas or rice.

Processed meat and red meat.

Low-fat products that have replaced fat with added sugar, such as fat-free yogurt.

Choose high-fiber, slow-release carbs

Carbohydrates have a big impact on your blood sugar levels—more so than fats and proteins—so you need to be smart about what types of carbs you eat. Limit refined carbohydrates like white bread, pasta, and rice, as well as soda, candy, packaged meals, and snack foods. Focus on high-fiber complex carbohydrates—also known as slow-release carbs. They are digested more slowly, thus preventing your body from producing too much insulin.

How to Stop Sugar Cravings Once And For All

0
Tips to stops sugar cravings
Tips to stops sugar cravings

Listen to your body

Webster’s Dictionary defines a craving as “an intense, urgent, or abnormal desire or longing.” Synonyms include yearning, hankering, wish, want, and lust. However, just because you’re having a craving or want something sweet doesn’t mean you have to eat sugar. Or even pop a sugar replacement, such as a piece of fruit — on impulse. Take a minute to understand what’s really going on in your body. Do you have a headache? Are you stressed out? Do you feel physical hunger? Are you bored? Do you need an energy boost? Or do you really want a sweet treat?

Buy yourself some time

Drink a glass of water, take five deep breaths, or go for a short walk. If you are truly hungry, it’s okay to reach for a snack. Your best bet for stamping out a craving may be to have a snack that includes protein or a source of healthy fat. Prepping your own at the beginning of the week will enable you to be proactive. It will also prevent trips to the vending machine for sugar-filled packaged foods.

Pay attention to patterns

If you notice that a sugar craving hits you at 3 p.m. daily without fail. That’s a good sign you should add a protein-filled snack at this time to power through the day. It will make you feel better instantly. It also will set you up for a better evening with fewer cravings around bedtime.

Balance your meals

Make sure every meal you eat (including breakfast and lunch!) contains protein, veggies, or other healthy carbs and healthy fats. This will keep you fuller for longer and stabilize your blood sugar.

Identify your faves

Figure out what you love to eat so that you feel satisfied — not deprived — at the end of a meal. It might help to keep it simple and pick two go-to breakfasts, two go-to lunches, and two go-to dinners and have those ingredients on hand so you can stay consistent.

Spice things up

We sometimes get stuck in an eating rut sticking to the same simple meals every day. We know they’re “safe”. But as they say, variety is the spice of life — and spice is a savior when you’re swapping out sugar. Some of the most unique flavors are derived from easily accessible spices that don’t contain any added sugar. For example, red pepper and cinnamon.

Be adventurous

While it helps to have enjoyable staples to turn to, getting curious in the kitchen can provide a fun outlet and instill healthy eating habits. Explore recipes, eat some new vegetables and fruits you’ve never tried before or combine different ingredients to create new dishes. By switching up what you’re eating from day to day, you might find a new delicious dish that gets you excited about dinner.

Dodge sugar pushers

While most people will support your get-healthy mission, there will be a few who try to derail your efforts. At a birthday or holiday dinner, you might notice your mom trying to persuade you to eat dessert — or your friends eye-rolling because you turned down a cocktail. Even your spouse can morph into a sugar pusher when he or she wants to hit that all-you-can-eat pasta joint.

How to Make a Resume With No Experience

how to make a resume with no experience

Finding work can be tough. It can be even more difficult when you don’t have a laundry list of references or a surplus of experience to work off of. It often seems like a catch 22 situation. Employers don’t want to hire you without experience, but you can’t get experience without being hired in the first place. And to top it off, the employer is requiring a resume. But do you even know how to make a resume with no experience?

Don’t be discouraged. There are ways to fill up the blank space on your resume even when it seems like you don’t have much to put on there in the first place. Follow these steps to create a winning first-time resume with no experience. Samples of skills and credentials are also provided to help inspire you.

How to Write a Resume With No Experience

Assess What You Offer

When you’re learning how to write a resume with no experience, remember what you lack in job history you may make up for in your motivation to excel. Put yourself in the hiring manager’s shoes and ask, “Why should I hire this person when there are 100 other applicants with more experience?”

Before you revamp your resume, research your target positions on job portals. Review the job descriptions to see which qualifications are most important. A key to understanding how to make a resume with no experience is finding where your background overlaps. Look at the duties described in the job description. Ask yourself these questions:

  1. What skills, abilities, and credentials are listed as desirable?
  2. Do you offer competencies, personal attributes, or unpaid experience that compensate for your lack of work history?
  3. How would the employer benefit if you were hired?
  4. What are the top five reasons you should be selected for an interview?
  5. These will help you find skills that can help differentiate you from your peers.

Select the Right Format

The two most effective resume formats you can turn to when writing a resume with no experience are functional and combination. Steer clear of strictly chronological resumes, which place emphasis on your work history.

Option 1: Your first option is functional resumes, which emphasize your related skills while downplaying your work chronology. Rather than citing dates of employment, this format uses categories to highlight your aptitudes. For example, if you’re seeking a secretarial position but don’t have any related experience. You may create the following categories: “Computer Skills,” “Interpersonal Communications,” and “Office Management Abilities.” The latter may refer to managing your own home office, for example.

Option 2: A combination resume is a chronological resume that leads with a qualifications summary, in which you emphasize the credentials that most qualify you for the job you’re trying to land. The fact is, hiring managers and recruiters are super-busy, so you need to can grab their attention right away. It makes sense that this section would be a detailed, personal, and thorough explanation. Many people make the mistake of writing one vague and unclear statement. A specific reason for why you’re applying makes you look determined and committed to the specialized industry much more than a generic “hire me!” sentence.

Strategically order the remaining sections in your resume to best suit your qualifications. Placing more relevant categories—such as education, key skills, volunteer work, etc.—before your work history.

Weave Your Unique Credentials Into Your Resume

Whether you’ve chosen a functional or combination resume, you need compelling content to convince hiring managers to give you a chance. When determining how to create a resume with no experience, consider these important areas:

Previous employment: Part-time positions and temporary jobs are valid forms of experience. Focus on your achievements and contributions to show you are a results-oriented worker.

Volunteerism: Even though it didn’t pay, volunteer work looks great on a resume. It showcases some worthwhile skills you might have picked up. It’s also an impressive statement about your character. Being dedicated to helping others, even without any tangible compensation, is an excellent way to show a future employer that you’re a team player.

Key skills and abilities: Typical resumes leave a space open for you to highlight any relevant skills you possess for the job you’re applying for. That section can really be the spot where you make your resume a standout one.

Previous experience is simply a way for an employer to judge your qualifications for the current job opening. If you can prove your attributes in a way other than through work experience, it’s just as valid. For a first-time resume with no experience, samples might include:

  • Foreign languages
  • Technical capabilities
  • Organisational ability
  • Interpersonal and written communication aptitude
  • Creative problem-solving
  • Research ability
  • Customer relations
  • The ability to rapidly master new concepts
  • The ability to work independently or as part of a team

leadership potential

But instead of simply making a list, state a useful skill you possess and use something to back it up; anyone can tally up some adjectives, but proof speaks louder than words. For example, if you say that you have self-taught design skills, give them an example of something you’ve designed. It’s really a simple concept, and most employers are willing to look past the slim employment history if you’re able to showcase the needed skills.

Education: When you don’t have any work-related background to put down, your education section can act as a sort of replacement. It’s all about how you talk it up, so make sure to include anything that has the possibility of adding value to your resume.

High School Students: Learning how to make a resume with no experience means you need to look at what you can pull from of your academic experience are where you’ll want to look to bolster your credentials. Describe courses, school projects, internships, and extracurricular activities that are relevant to your career goal.

College Students: Many people feel that unless they have a degree, any secondary education they’ve experienced is not worth putting down. On the contrary, any university, community college, or training courses do hold some merit. There are many job advertisements that specifically say “some college experience required.” It would be a mistake to undervalue any of your experience, even if partially completed, and adding that information about yourself always looks more impressive than omitting it.

Other benefits: On your resume or cover letter, indicate whether you are willing to work the graveyard shift or take classes at your own expense to get up to speed. Any of these benefits could tip the scales in your favor.

How To Avoid Junk Foods

Tips to avoid junk food
Tips to avoid junk food

Cravings for junk food are a common reason that people ditch their healthy eating plans. They can lead to unhealthy eating habits and be the biggest obstacle to weight loss.

Have you ever found yourself craving a second helping of dessert after a filling dinner, or finishing a sharing-size bag of crisps or chocolate? You are not alone! It can be incredibly hard with some foods to know when to say stop.

What is it that makes certain foods seemingly irresistible? What keeps us coming back for more, even when we know we’re full? What makes us binge on foods we know are bad for us?

Key points:

Resisting junk food cravings is not a case of willpower.

Junk foods are specially engineered to target our pleasure receptors in the brain.

How junk food is engineered to be ‘just right’

Ever noticed that no matter how full you feel after a meal, you can always make room for dessert? This is most likely down to a psychological phenomenon called ‘sensory-specific satiety’.

As we consume more of a particular flavour, our taste buds slowly get more and more tired of it, and  When presented with a new flavour, we get more reward from it, and so we continue eating. We can see this concept in action at an all-you-eat buffet; we’re likely to eat more because there is a variety of flavours to keep our taste buds interested!

However, our taste system can be tricked when salt, fat, and sugar are carefully combined in expertly measured amounts to be ‘just right’. At this point, we keep coming back for more, even when our bodies are trying to tell us to stop because we keep experiencing pleasure.

Key points:

The more we eat one type of food the less rewarding we find the taste.

Foods that hit the bliss point override the brain’s natural ‘stop’ signal and keep providing us with pleasure.

This leads to us wanting more and more of that enticing food.

The science behind the bliss point

So what’s going on when we consume foods engineered like this? Why can’t we get enough?

Our bodies respond to foods that hit the bliss point by triggering reward pathways in our brain and . Dopamine is a neurotransmitter (chemical messenger) in the brain that is involved with feelings of euphoria, bliss, motivation, and pleasure.

The result of this is a feeling of pleasure, that acts like a high, and we keep on coming back for more. This leads to a perpetual cycle of cravings, eating more junk, weight gain, and more cravings!

In a  on the topic, psychiatrist Judson Brewer points out that this cycle is built upon context-dependent memory. Our brain remembers what actions make us feel good, such as eating chocolate. Then when we feel bad for whatever reason, our brain says ‘eating chocolate might help’, and we are driven to eat chocolate. After we repeat this process enough, it becomes an automatic habit.

Our bodies respond to foods that hit the bliss point by triggering reward pathways in our brain and encouraging dopamine signalling.

Our brain remembers what foods make us feel good and triggers a craving for these foods when we feel bad.

There is nothing wrong with enjoying food, but binging as a result of craving, for any reason, is usually down to the bliss point.

What foods are the main culprits?

You might be surprised about which foods are the culprits. Some obvious bliss-point items include:

Cakes

Biscuits

Doughnuts

Ice cream

Crisps

Muffins

Chocolate

Sweets

However, it’s more than just the obvious foods. Next time you pick up a jar of tomato sauce at the supermarket, stop to take a look at the ingredients and see just how much sugar and salt are hidden inside. Less obvious bliss-point foods include:

Sauces

Dressings

Dips

Soups

Bread

Cereal bars

Surprisingly, all these products can contain that longed-for trio of salt, sugar, and fat that keeps us coming back for more.

Key points:

Avoiding the obvious foods, like cakes and biscuits, can help to reduce your future cravings for these foods.

Surprisingly, many unexpected foods have also been engineered to leave you wanting more.

Top tips to reduce junk food cravings

1) Break the habit

In the TED talk mentioned above, Judson Brewer explains that the best way to break a habit, like junk food eating, is to become aware of what is happening in your mind and body when we crave.

Rather than trying to ignore your cravings, try getting curious and recognising how you feel when you crave or eat a particular food. Understanding what happens when we eat junk food helps us to step back and become less interested in this habit.

Next time you have a craving for some junk food, getting curious about what’s happening (‘am I feeling sad, stressed, or hungry?’) will help you let the craving go. Then, repeating this process enough will help you break the habit of feeling compelled to eat from cravings. Consider finding other avenues for emotional release if you notice that you crave junk food when you are stressed or sad. Walking, music, or writing in a journal can all be great stress busters.

2) Eat junk food mindfully

Mindful eating can help us break habits while still enjoying junk food occasionally. This involves focusing solely on the taste and texture of the food you are eating and any sensations you feel in that present moment.

Occasionally consuming junk food is part of life. The key is to eat it free from distractions (e.g. not in front of the tv or at your desk at work) and enjoy it so that you feel satisfied without overeating it. Eating mindfully can help us tune into our internal hunger signals and prevent them from being overridden.

3) Build balanced meals

Building balanced meals can help us feel satisfied and reduce the risk of junk food cravings in between meals. Opt for:

Fresh vegetables, (e.g. spinach and peppers).

Unprocessed meat and fish (e.g. chicken or salmon).

Wholegrain carb options (e.g. brown rice or rye bread).

is an example 7-day diet plan that is satisfying and focuses on balanced, healthy meals.

4) Be aware of bliss-point foods

Try to be aware of unexpected foods that we use every day (e.g. tomato sauce) which has also been engineered to have a bliss-point. Real food doesn’t need fussy engineering and fancy packaging to taste great. Try experimenting with making your food to replace shop bought ones with added sugars and salts.

For instance, you can easily make your tomato sauce using chopped tinned tomatoes, herbs, and garlic. Eating real food will not override hunger signals, nor overstimulate brain-reward systems, and still tastes delicious.

5) Sleep

Sleep is often overlooked when we discuss junk food cravings. However,  has demonstrated that the more sleep deprived we are, the more hungry we feel. On top of this, when we are tired we are much more likely to crave and eat energy dense, sugar, and fat filled junk foods as opposed to healthy snacks. Getting 8-9 hours of sleep, compared to 6-7 hours, can massively reduce the risk of junk food cravings.

Key points:

Being curious and mindful of what happens when we crave junk food, and how we feel when we eat it, can help us break the habit of craving.

Recognising bliss-point foods and building balanced meals can reduce the number of cravings we have for junk foods.

A lack of sleep increases our hunger levels and influences our food choices.

Back to office? Google bets on a hybrid workplace model with a new office in London

The CEO of Alphabet, the parent company of Google, Sundar Pichai took to Instagram to share the pictures of its new office in central London. In a cautiously worded statement, Pichai says that he is excited at this new acquisition in Central Saint Giles office in London, which will be a more flexible future workplace.

The office has a capacity to house 10,000 workers across our UK offices. Google currently employs more than 6,000 workers in Britain.

With this development, it looks clear that Google is serious about bringing back a part of its employees to offices in a more flexible future workplace. Google plans to refit the building so it is adapted for in-person teamwork and has meeting rooms for hybrid working, as well as creating more space for individuals.

Since the pandemic began in 2019, most companies gradually allowed their employees to work from home. Now many of these companies are thinking of continuing this work culture even after the situation improves, allowing employees some flexibility to work from home on most days while visiting offices only for a few days every week.

In September last year, Google announced it was extending its voluntary return-to-office policy through January 2022.

Though Pichai has earlier said that the ability to reconnect in person has been re-energizing and will make everyone even more effective in the weeks and months ahead.

Human Web Series Review: Shefali Shah stamps her authority yet again, Kirti Kulhari shines too

Human Web Series Review

There have been various attempts in the past to bring alive the murky world of medical malpractice and unethical drug trials on the screen but none has been as impactful as the Human – the new Disney + Hotstar special series. Viewer alert – some instances shown in the web series may be triggering for people negotiating the third wave of the ongoing Covid pandemic.

Human Web Series - Shefali and Kirti
Human Web Series

Human is created and directed by Vipul Amrutlal Shah and Mozez Singh and convincingly captures everything that is wrong in the medical care industry today. The plot is constructed around two characters – Shefali playing the 45-year-old Dr. Gauri Nath, one of India’s top neurosurgeons and the founder of the city’s top hospital Manthan. She shines through and through across all the episodes – a woman who is always in command.

The second-billed Kirti plays the 35-year-old junior cardiac surgeon. The web series takes a few daring leaps in terms of creating backstories for their main characters.

The series is a medical thriller and also as a sociopolitical drama. It narrates rather convincingly that medical fraternity also has its share of greedy individuals who will do anything for money. There’s enough and more information on pharma company owners who are only interested in profit, with no moral obligations.

5 Most Dangerous Virus & Malware Threats in 2022

Dangerous Virus & Malware Threats in 2022
Dangerous Virus & Malware Threats in 2022

Viruses and malware are constantly evolving, becoming more advanced and more dangerous by the second, making it extremely difficult to keep your data protected. Unless you’re properly protected (which most people aren’t), you’re at risk of becoming a victim of the latest computer virus threats and malware attacks.

Cybercriminals are relentless and will stop at nothing to hack your computer or phone to steal your most valuable data — including bank details, personal photos, and sensitive ID card information. This is why you must have a working antivirus installed on your PC, Mac, Android, or iPhone. I recommend Norton 360 for low-cost, secure protection against all cyber threats.

1. Clop Ransomware

Ransomware is malware which encrypts your files until you pay a ransom to the hackers. “Clop” is one of the latest and most dangerous ransomware threats. It’s a variant of the well-known CryptoMix ransomware, which frequently targets Windows users.

Before beginning the encryption process, the Clop ransomware blocks over 600 Windows processes and disables multiple Windows 10 applications, including Windows Defender and Microsoft Security Essentials — leaving you with zero chance of protecting your data.

The Clop ransomware has evolved since its inception, now targeting entire networks — not just individual devices. Even the Maastricht University in the Netherlands became a victim of the Clop ransomware, with almost all Windows devices on the university’s network being encrypted and forced to pay a ransom.

2. Fake Windows Updates (Hidden Ransomware)

Hackers have been increasingly sending emails that instruct readers to install urgent Windows OS updates. The emails trick readers into installing the “latest” Windows updates, which are actually ransomware ‘.exe’ files in disguise.

The ransomware contained in these emails is known as “Cyborg”. It encrypts all of your files and programs and demands a ransom payment to un-encrypt the files.

Unfortunately, many email service providers and basic antivirus software aren’t able to detect and block these emails. This is why you must be using an antivirus that provides proper internet security, protecting you from dangerous emails.

3. Zeus Gameover

Zeus Gameover is part of the “Zeus” family of malware and viruses. This piece of malware is a Trojan — malware disguised as something legitimate — that accesses your sensitive bank account details and steals all of your funds.

The worst thing about this particular variant of the Zeus malware family is that it doesn’t require a centralized “Command and Control” server to complete transactions — which is a flaw found in many cyberattacks that authorities can target. Instead, Zeus Gameover can bypass centralized servers and create independent servers to send sensitive information. In essence, you cannot trace your stolen data.

4. RaaS

“RaaS” — also known as “Ransomware as a Service” — is a growing industry in the underground hacker community. People without the knowledge to carry out a sophisticated ransomware attack can pay to hire a professional hacker or team of hackers to perform the attack for them.

The growth of the underground RaaS industry is worrying, as it shows how easy it is to infect people with ransomware despite the bad actors having no previous experience with designing or coding malware.

5. News Malware Attacks

Cybercriminals often use current news stories and global events to target people with malware.

One example is hackers using the wave of the COVID-19 (Coronavirus) outbreak to target individuals with malware. Hackers send out emails that are disguised as legitimate information about the outbreak. Readers are prompted to click a link to learn more about the information, but the link contains malware that copies the files on your device and steals your personal information.

Research currently focuses on the spread of this malware in Japan. Still, it will become an issue worldwide during any kind of newsworthy outbreak.

The secret recipe to make cheaper phones and computers is out!

A new study says that it is now possible to make cheap phones and computers with OLED displays with Graphene use. Researchers from Paragraf and the Queen Mary University of London have come up with a new study that demonstrates the development of an OLED with Graphene. In doing so, the scientists were able to replace Indium, one of the rare metals used in the making of OLED panels.

A viable replacement

The industry has so far been using Indium, a rare material used in the making of OLED panels. Indium is one of the nine rarest elements in the Earth’s crust. The rarity of the element can also be judged from its classification as a critical material on the EU’s list.

Graphene may prove to be a viable replacement for Indium, If brought to wide-scale use, the technology based on Graphene may significantly bring down the cost of OLED manufacturing.

The new study is published in the journal Advanced Optical Materials and shows the first-ever viable way to replace Indium from OLEDs. Indium can be found in use in TVs, solar panels and even LED lights.

Keeping fingers crossed

Because of its limited availability, there have been many attempts in the past to replace Indium from OLEDs. However, none of the materials ever tried were able to give an output comparable to what Indium delivers.

Graphene has been touted as a wonder material since its discovery. Due to its honeycomb structure, it is considered as one of the strongest materials on Earth. It is also completely flexible so can be shaped as per required use and it is more conductive than Copper.

Industry is keenly watching this new development and if it is found to be scalable by the tech majors, it can really prove to be a turning point in OLED manufacturing.

Let’s raise a toast to the rising power of women in information technology

Indian women IT industry

The information technology industry has witnessed a steady rise of women workforce over the years.

Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) recently announced that it now employs more than 2,00,000 women in different roles across the organisation. This is being considered as a significant feat in the diversity journey of the organisation.

As the IT industry grows, so will opportunities for everyone – including women, who often do not have the same opportunities available to them in an arguably male-dominated field.

women-in-IT-industry_07-1
women play dominant role in It

The boardrooms of all the IT majors have been abuzz with the talks of diversity, inclusion and equality over the years. There is a widespread recognition that it leads to better productivity and women have made this possible with the hard and a consistent approach to work.

Women are still under-represented in technology

While this is true that technology has no gender and yet we cannot deny that women are under-represented in this field. Kaspersky’s 2021 “Women in Tech” report shows that despite the opportunity to use problem-solving skills (44 per cent) or to work in a well-paid profession (40 per cent), the majority of women in the sector are yet to get their due.

Most of the women surveyed admitted that they needed to work harder than their male peers to establish their value (78 per cent). Meanwhile, 39 per cent of women in tech pointed out that gender prejudice is a barrier that they have to negotiate every day at the work place.

Up to 78 per cent of the respondents believe organisations should promote more women to senior roles while also considering mentorship opportunities, flexible working hours, and equal maternity and paternity leave.

The report also found that gender-diverse teams can be more efficient and are capable of making critical choices twice as fast and in half the time.

Plenty of opportunities waiting to be tapped

Many industry experts believe that there are plenty of opportunities such as product management, project management, UX design, support, and training where women can demonstrate their abilities. It’s also important to highlight that soft skills such as collaboration, communication, and customer skills are key to a variety of tech roles in addition to mathematics and logical reasoning. This opens up a whole new world of opportunities for women in the information technology sector.

Why women love their cats? Surprise, surprise! The answer lies in the history of women empowerment

They say that dogs are man’s best friend. It was never a secret why? Dogs are also into a lot of male activities like hunting and fishing therefore the connect was always there.

cats Love
women love their cats

But one wonders what makes a woman bond over a cat? Is there is a definite pattern like a male and dog bonding? Let’s begin with the fact that for centuries, cats have been associated strongly with women in art, literature and the annals of history.

The legend of witch’s black cat, the story of Cleopatra and her beloved felines or the stereotype of the crazy cat lady, cats and women are inextricably intertwined for ages for all the good and bad reasons.

But how did this relationship come to be?

Women-Cat love : A historical perspective

Let’s have a closer look at the history of women and cats and find out.

It all started in the 1800s when cat shows started gaining popularity across the western world. Women, in large numbers, were drawn to these competitions as they had the free time to spend on breeding and showing cats.

These cat shows were largely organised by women’s societies as charity fundraisers, often for organizations that benefited women or animals. Most of the participants and spectators were also women.

cats staring
Women-Cat love

It was an alternate way for women get involved with science, a field that they were largely barred from participating in. By breeding cats, women contributed valuable time and knowledge towards the field of genetics, advancing the world in the best way they were able to.

These cat shows also offered women an opportunity to escape their oppression, socialize with other women, develop their knowledge, and express themselves. It’s no wonder that women and cats share such a close connection even to this day!

Women-Cat love : The bond has only got better in modern times

For centuries, cats and women relied on one another to make it in a world where they were not the favourites. But in modern times, when women are free to work and go to school as they please, does that love of cats persist?

The answer is yes!

In a 2011 study conducted by the University of Vienna, researchers observed that cats were more likely to interact with women than men. Cats preferred women’s laps to men’s and were more inclined to approach women than they were men.

The relationships between cats and women were “more intense” than those between cats and men. In fact, there are studies saying that woman-cat relationship was closer to a human-human relationship than a human-animal one!

Women are, on average, smaller than men, so cats may feel less frightened of them.

Another interesting aspect to this whole debate is the fact that women are biologically inclined to respond to the sound of a baby’s cry, and cats understand this. Their meows (which are only used for humans, not other cats) are similar in pitch and tone to a crying baby, which makes women more likely to respond to them.

Relatedly, women seem more susceptible to cute things, like a smiling baby or a fluffy cat, than men are. Perhaps the adorable appearance of kittens and cats is what makes them so irresistible to women.

Whatever the reason, the female-feline connection is real, and it should be respected and celebrated a male-dog bond.

The debate over the health implications of red meat consumption refuses to die down.

Red Meat Slices - Is it bad or good for health?
Red meat

It is loaded with vitamins and minerals that are essential for a healthful, balanced diet. However, there are several studies which establish red meat responsible for higher risk of cancer and other diseases.

What is it? How do we define that? It is a flesh that comes from mammalian muscle such as beef, lamb, pork, goat, veal, and mutton.

In recent years many of us have given up on red meat. There are just two reasons – higher health risks involved and availability of other options.

Vegan is now trending

The growing concern over animal welfare has turned many people as vegan. It seems that millions more of us are opting for plant-based foods over meat-based products. We believe that they are more healthful.

A number of studies have suggested that when it comes to health, a plant-based diet is the way to go. In December 2016, a position paper from the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics claimed that a plant-based diet can lower the risk of type 2 diabetes. That too by 62 percent. It can as well reduce the risk of heart attack and stroke.

Cancer

When it comes to intake, cancer is perhaps the most well-established health implication.

The World Health Organization (WHO) published a report concluding that red meat is “probably carcinogenic to humans”. This means that there is some evidence that it can increase the risk of cancer.

It essentially means that there is sufficient evidence that processed meat intake increases cancer risk.

To reach these conclusions, the WHO’s International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) Working Group reviewed more than 800 studies assessing the effects of red and processed meats on various types of cancer.

Kidney failure

Kidney failure – whereby the kidneys are no longer able to filter waste products and water from the blood. It is one of the biggest health concerns now.  Diabetes and high blood pressure are among the most common causes of kidney failure. Many studies have proved that red meat consumption increases the risk of both diabetes and high blood pressure.

A study published in the Journal of the American Society of Nephrology. It concludes that a dose-dependent link between red meat consumption and risk of kidney failure. For example, participants who were in the highest 25 percent of red meat intake were found to have a 40 percent increased risk of kidney failure, compared with those in the lowest 25 percent.

Heart disease

An unhealthful diet, high in saturated fat and cholesterol, is a well-known risk factor for heart disease. A number of studies have suggested that it falls into that category. It raises the risk of heart disease and other cardiovascular conditions.

Amazing Facts of Hokey

1. Which of the following materials are field hockey sticks *not* allowed to be made from?

Answer: Metal

Field hockey sticks are not allowed to contain any metal as this could create sharp edges if the stick was damaged which could injure other players. Hockey sticks were traditionally made of wood and many players particularly at beginner or recreational level still use wooden sticks, however more expensive sticks are now often made from a mixture of fibreglass, aramid fibre (such as Kevlar) and carbon fibre.

2. How many players are on the field for each team in an official field hockey match?

Answer: 11

Field hockey is much closer to soccer than ice hockey. There are ten players on the field plus the goalie.

3. Since 2015 what has been the maximum permitted length of a field hockey stick?

Answer: 105cm

In 2015 a maximum length of 105cm (41 inches) was introduced for field hockey sticks, prior to this there had been no maximum length. As well as a maximum length there is also a maximum weight for hockey sticks of 737g, although most players use a lighter stick than this.

4. How many players from each team are allowed on the field at any one time?

Answer: 11

There are eleven players per team allowed on a hockey field at any time, up to five additional players are allowed in a squad and these can be substituted in and out as many times as is desired during the course of the match. The team who are in possession of the ball are called the attack and the other team the defence.

5. There is one player on a field hockey team who is allowed to play at the ball with their hands and feet. What name is used for this position?

Answer: Goalkeeper

Each team is allowed to have one goalkeeper on the field during matches. The goal keeper can use any part of their body to deflect the ball away from the goal including their hands and feet which other players would receive a penalty for doing. Goal keepers must wear a helmet, leg guards and footguards and they are also allowed to wear additional protective equipment such as hand guards and chest guards.

6. What are the referees called?

Answer: Umpires

There are usually two umpires, one for each side of the field. Some games have more than two.

8. What does the referee call if somebody blocks another player from getting to the ball?

Answer: Obstruction

Obstruction is when you block somebody from getting to the ball, whether intentionally or not. You can turn your back to a player, but you have to be moving your feet and the ball if you have it.

9. According to the rules of field hockey, how many ways can you hit a ball?

Answer: 3

The sweep hit is getting down really low to sweep your stick along the ground. The push pass is to push the ball to a teammate. Your stick does not make a sound when you do this. The most common type of hit is the drive. This is like an ice hockey slapshot.

10. Where was field hockey invented?

Answer: Scotland

It was first played in the Scottish highlands in the 1700s. It used to be called Shinty.

Rani Rampal – An example of resilience and can-do attitude

Rani Rampal Hockey

She forged her own escape. A voyage that has brought her to the Olympic podium. Rani Rampal is not one to be blinded by its glamour though, she’s not had an easy ride by any stretch of the imagination. She has fought her battles, a journey that has brought her closer to the first gold  at the Olympics for the Indian Women’s Hockey Team in their history.

Armed with an abandoned broken hockey stick, Rani Rampal set forth with her dreams of playing hockey. Despite having been rejected by the coach for being malnourished, her fire inspired the coach to give her a shot at the sport.

An unfortunate reality for many of our women athletes is the internalised patriarchy they’ve had to battle since their birth. Rani Rampal’s experience was no different.

Rani’s mother’s name might be unknown, but she has to be lauded for seeing the star in her daughter, looking to the skies to keep time. Her mother’s support ensured Rani could make the most of her dreams.

Our Olympians are bereft of even the basic necessities. It shows the reality of many of our national sports figures. Imagine the sheer volume of athletes who don’t make it to prominence because of this pitiful state of affairs.

There might have been several mythological mentor figures throughout our multicultural history, ground realities however offer a stark contrast. For our athletes good mentorship hasn’t always been accessible.

It’s been a long way to the top, having kept her promise of buying her family a home, she’s now got her eyes on gold from Tokyo.

The way to the top isn’t easy. It’s important to appreciate, but it’s also to realize how far we’ve to go to improve the lives of our athletes.

6 dating mistakes that you should avoid to find that perfect match

dating-mistakes in surprise
dating-mistakes in surprise

Let’s have an honest and open discussion about how people are dating in their quest to find a long-term relationship. Something is just not right and that is the reason while most of the times dates are turning out to be more of a heart burning experience than anything else.

Don’t waste your time, body, or soul. Ok, soul might be a bit exaggerative, but now that I got your attention, let’s proceed with this conversation.

1. Timing is everything. Always remember – time is a commodity you can’t get back. Do not waste time on someone who are not these for you in the way you need them to be. Let them go. The more energy, time, and effort you waste on them, the more it prevents you from moving forward.

2. Sex is important but… Don’t hurry. Don’t make it too easy for your partner. Let them earn their space in your bed. Tease them, make them wait, let them up their game and then the whole experience is going to be a lot better than expected.

You know how it is when you can have something all of the time, it becomes less desired. It becomes about what is next versus what is available and in front of you.

3.  It’s not just massage, remember! More often this is code for I want to have sex with you. Now if that is what you want to do, go for it but with eyes wide open.  and if you aren’t trying to have sex then depend on your massage therapist until you decide you want to sleep with that person.

4. Say no to ambiguities. Avoid those who are not clear in their heads about you. Don’t limit your options for someone who isn’t willing to make you their main option.

5. First discover yourself. Spend some time with yourself. Go out alone sometimes. It’s easier to be approached when you are on your own versus with your gang.  Be generous in offering a compliment.

6. Take one step at a time. Let the time decide. Go with the flow. Go on a date. Enjoy yourself. Relax and be in the moment. Let things evolve naturally between the two of you. True love takes time.

In the nutshell, be yourself and enjoy the life.

Dogs with ball
Calm tone always works

Here are some tips –

Calm tone always works

Use a calm, low-pitched tone of voice and short clipped words. High-pitched upset voices send the wrong signals that you are losing control.

Be consistent in choosing words

Puppies thrive on routine. You need to use the same words for the same thing each time since puppy can’t comprehend that “wait” and “stay here” and “I’ll be right back” or “don’t move” mean the same thing. Choose one.

Stand tall

You simply have to carry yourself like the boss. You don’t have to prove it.

You can use your body to control puppy movements.

Behave yourself

Let the puppy approach you rather than chasing after it. If you must approach, curve in at an oblique angle instead of walking or running toward the puppy directly.

Be watchful

Call your vet immediately if you suspect your puppy is sick. Do not try home remedies, its best to see the expert and let them decide what is best for your puppy.

P.T. Usha – The Untold And Inspiring Story of Queen of Indian Tracks

PT Usha Inspiring Story of Queen of Indian Tracks

One of India’s famous sporting star, Pilavullakandi Thekkeparambil Usha fondly known as ‘PT Usha’ is the lady who showed the citizens of India that there are sports other than cricket and Indian sportsmen have the potential to represent the nation at the international level and bring glory to the country. She is the sporting legend who inspired thousands of Indian women to take up sports and especially athletics as their career, and the progress Indian sportspersons have made in the past few decades speaks volumes of the growth of sporting culture in India.

P.T. Usha’s Biography

India’s ace sprinter was born on 27th of June, 1964, in a village called Payyoli, Kerala. Born to a poor family, Usha could not enjoy the early years of her life. The poor condition of the family and the health issues did not permit Usha to have a privileged life. Though the family could not make ends meet, Usha had an incredible passion for athletics and sports, and this very passion has helped her earn the nickname ‘Payyoli Express’ and ‘Golden Girl.’

Golden Girl’s Career

In the year 1976, ‘The Queen of Indian Track and Field’ got the much-needed recognition when the Kerala Government awarded her with a Rs. 250 scholarship which helped her represent her district after the government started a sports school exclusively for women in Cannore. Interestingly, Usha’s talent was noticed by athletics coach O M Nambiar during National School Games award ceremony, and he was impressed by Usha’s “lean shape and fast walking style.” That is the day he decided to coach her, and as they say, rest is history.

Under Nambiar’s able guidance Usha turned into a sporting star by winning several medals in various athletic meets that she had participated. Though India’s Golden Girl began her international career at the 1980 Moscow Olympics, she rose to glory only two years later when Asian Games were held in New Delhi in 1982. She made the country proud by winning the Silver medal in the 100 m and 200 m event. PT Usha turned into the Queen of Indian Track and Field in 1985 when she bagged five gold medals at the Jakarta Asian Meet. She had won gold medals in 100m, 200m, 400m, 400m hurdles, 4X400m relay and also a bronze medal in the 100m relay. The icing on the cake in her athletic career came in the year 1986 at the Seoul Asian Games when she notched four gold medals and one silver medal. Though she could not make a mark at the 1980 Moscow Olympics, she became the youngest Indian sprinter to compete in an Olympic event at a young age of 16.

The Queen of India’s sporting fans found her King in V. Srinivasan and the duo got married in the year 1991, and later the couple was blessed with a baby boy, Ujjwal. Though she took four years off from athletics, the time off never affected her speed, and she announced her arrival in style by clinching the silver medal in Hiroshima Asian Games held in the year 1994.

The highest point of her career has to be the moment when she finished 4th in 400 meters hurdle in Los Angeles which is the closest any Indian female athlete has ever come to win an Olympic medal. Believe it or not but the ace sprinter of India had lost the bronze medal by just 1/100th of a second.

Awards and Accolades

PT Usha has had a fabulous career as a sportsperson and her moments of glory are etched in the hearts of her diehard fans. Throughout her illustrious career, India’s Golden Girl has won both national and international medals and made the Tricolor flutter with immense pride. PT Usha has won as many as 101 national and international including 13 Gold medals in the Asian Games and Asian Championships. PT Usha was honored with the Arjuna Award and Padma Shree in 1984. Usha was awarded the Greatest Woman Athlete in 1985 at the Jakarta Asian Athletic Meet, Adidas Golden Shoe award for the Best Athlete in 1986 at the Seoul Asian Games.

She has won Best Athlete in Asia award in the year 1984, 1985, 1986, 1987 and 1989. She has also won World Trophy for Best Athlete in 1985 and 1986. Currently, PT Usha is employed in Southern Railways as an officer and is also successfully running a school for athletics at Koyilandi near Kozhikode, Kerala, where girls of the age group 10-12 are recruited and trained. The training and guiding ability of PT Usha came into limelight when one of her students Tintu Lukka, qualified for the women’s semi-final in the 800m event at the 2012 London Olympics.

This sporting star has won the hearts of Indians not only because of her achievements on the track and field but also for the fact that she triumphed in life’s race, overcoming all the challenges life threw at her. Be it financial difficulties, inadequate facilities and health problems she faced them all with immense confidence and emerged as a winner. And that is how a young kid from a small village became the sporting legend of India.

How to Prevent Alcoholism

0
Prevent Alcoholism
Prevent Alcoholism

Harmful alcohol use is one of the world’s leading causes of illness, disability, and death. It is linked to over 200 diseases and injuries, resulting in 3.3 million deaths globally each year.1

Excessive alcohol consumption can lead to alcohol use disorders. Alcohol use disorder (AUD) — also known as alcoholism, alcohol abuse, and alcohol addiction — is a type of substance abuse.

It can damage your health, relationships, and well-being over time unless treated. Learning to prevent alcoholism can help you avoid consequences and reduce its impact on your life.

Before you take steps in alcohol prevention, you need to examine your current alcohol use. This will help you find out whether or not you have an alcohol problem.

Assessing Your Drinking Levels — How to Tell if You Drink Too Much

Take note of how many drinks you typically consume and how often you drink in a day, week, and month. If you drink excessively, then you may have an alcohol problem. These include:

Binge drinking — women who have 4 or more drinks or men who have 5 or more drinks in 2 hours.

High-intensity drinking — alcohol consumption that is 2 or more times than binge drinking levels.

Heavy drinking — women who have 3 or more drinks a day or at least 8 drinks per week or men who have 4 or more drinks a day or at least 15 drinks per week.

Heavy drinking, high-intensity drinking, and binge drinking are signs that you drink too much alcohol. Any type of alcohol use in pregnant women and adolescents below 21 is also considered excessive.4,5

How Can You Prevent Alcohol Abuse?

Drinking patterns vary depending on age, gender, culture, environment, and background. People’s behavior and attitude towards alcohol also change over time.

Since alcohol use varies and produces different effects on everyone, there is no single effective way to prevent alcoholism. Knowing how alcohol affects a person will help you determine which steps you can take.

Tips for Preventing Alcohol Abuse & Addiction in Adults

If you are struggling with alcohol, the following tips will help you create healthy drinking habits and prevent alcohol use disorder.

Drink moderately — or practice low-risk drinking

The Dietary Guidelines for Americans recommend non-drinkers to abstain from alcohol completely. But for drinkers and people who want to start drinking, you can limit your alcohol consumption to 1 drink per day (in women) and 2 drinks per day (in men).8

Those who regularly consume alcohol may also practice low-risk drinking. This means limiting your intake to 3 drinks per day or 7 drinks per week (in women) and 4 drinks per day or 14 drinks per week (in men).

According to the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA), only 2 out of 100 people who drink within these limits develop alcohol use disorders.4

Be mindful of your alcohol consumption

Monitor your alcohol intake. Whether you are drinking alone or with the company of others, make sure that you drink within the recommended limits.

One way to do this is to alternate drinking with other activities. For instance, you can eat, talk with people, and drink non-alcoholic beverages like juice or soda.

Before you grab a drink, you also have to ask yourself why you are doing it. You should not drink alcohol if you feel sad or stressed, and have other negative emotions.

Drinking to cope with negative emotions will cause you to consume more alcohol than usual. This can lead to alcohol dependence and long-term alcohol abuse.9,10

Avoid triggers that make you want to drink

A trigger can be any place, person, object, or situation that gives you the urge to drink alcohol. Learning to recognize your triggers is important in alcohol prevention. Here are some ways you can avoid them:

Do not attend gatherings or celebrations where there is alcohol

Stay away from people that drink heavily or encourage you to drink

Instead of storing alcohol at home, replace them with non-alcoholic drinks and healthy foods

Try to avoid people and situations that remind you of a past trauma

Do not live in places that provide easy access to alcohol, such as near bars

Learn healthy coping mechanisms to prevent emotional drinking

How to Prevent Alcohol Abuse in Children and Teens

The main consequence of underage drinking is that it causes impulsive behavior. This often leads to an increased risk for accidents, injuries, sexual assault, alcohol overdose, and premature death.

As a parent or family member, here are some ways to prevent alcohol use in teenagers:

Encourage teens to feel confident about turning down alcohol

Speak openly and honestly about drinking and its risks

Establish boundaries on what will happen if a teen drinks

Monitor your alcohol at home so you can tell if they have been drinking

Do not allow them to go to parties without a chaperone

Set a rule that it is not acceptable to consume alcohol at home

Encourage healthy relationships with peers who do not drink

Set a good example with responsible alcohol consumption

Enroll your child in school facilities with alcohol prevention programs

Preventing Harmful Alcohol Use in Older People

Prevent-Alcoholism_01

Alcohol use disorders are less common in older adults. But with nearly half the elderly aged 65 and over still drinking, alcohol consumption is still associated with age-related risks.

Older people have a lower tolerance to alcohol. They can suffer from alcohol-related harms even if they drink within the recommended limits. It is important for family members to be involved in the process.

Here are ways you can reduce the harmful consequences of alcohol among the elderly:

Make sure they do not mix alcohol with over-the-counter and prescription drugs

If they have pre-existing health conditions, limit or stop their alcohol intake

Watch out for triggers that may cause them to drink excessively and give them support

Get Help for You or Your Loved One

5 Best Antivirus for Windows 10: Full PC Security 2022

0
Full PC Security 2022
Full PC Security 2022

Here is a list of five best Windows 10 antiviruses which were the best of the best. They all have been rated on key parameters such as malware detection, internet security, and overall value.

They also offer protection on all kinds of Windows devices — home PCs, office PCs, gaming PCs, and multimedia PCs — for a reasonable price.

1. Norton 360 — Best PC Security Suite in 2022

Norton 360 is the gold-standard of antivirus software. The antivirus engine — powered by artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning — is excellent at protecting against all cybersecurity threats.

Norton’s 360 package includes:

Antivirus protection. Guarantees 100% protection against the most advanced viruses and malware, including ransomware and spyware.

Cloud backup. Securely store up to 75 GB of important files to Norton’s dedicated cloud.

Integrated firewall. Scans at the network level for cybersecurity threats.

Parental controls. Advanced settings to ensure kids are safe online.

Secure VPN. Fast bandwidth speeds with unlimited data and a wide range of server locations.

2. Bitdefender Total Security — Best for Advanced Malware Protection

Bitdefender Total Security uses a powerful cloud-based anti-malware engine that doesn’t slow down Windows computers — I was extremely impressed with how smoothly Bitdefender ran on my PC, not affecting my CPU or RAM (even during full scans).

Bitdefender offers 3 layers of malware protection to keep Windows computers safe:

Advanced threat defense. Uses machine learning to recognize malware (including ransomware) by continuously analyzing a PC for suspicious behavior, blocking threats immediately.

Ransomware remediation. Backs up important data if any suspicious activity is detected and restores the data after the threat is removed.

Bitdefender offers some excellent additional features as well, including comprehensive anti-phishing protections, a lightning-fast VPN (limited to 200 MB per day), and some of the best parental controls on the market.

Bitdefender caught more phishing sites in my testing than most competitors, the VPN allowed me to safely and anonymously browse the web without a significant speed drop, and the parental controls made it easy for me to filter unsafe content and receive alerts when my child left a predefined safe location.

3. TotalAV — Best for Windows Performance Optimization Tools

TotalAV has a really strong anti-malware engine — with good antivirus scanning, real-time protection, identity protection tools, and some of the best PC performance optimization tools I’ve tested.

The performance optimization tools include:

Junk and duplicate file cleaner.

Easy-to-use application uninstaller.

Startup program manager.

Web browser junk file cleaner.

My girlfriend and I both tested these features on our Windows 10 devices. My girlfriend found over 18 startup programs which were seriously slowing down her laptop’s startup times. The Startup Manager feature made it really easy to remove all of these unnecessary startup programs — which sped up the startup time by around 4 minutes.

The junk cleaner found over 8 GB of useless files that were clogging up my hard drive, so I could actually make room for my video software.

4. McAfee Total Protection — Best for Additional Security Features

McAfee Total Protection has an excellent malware scanner — detecting over 99.7% of the malware in my testing. It’s also got some of the best features of any internet security suite, including:

Web protection tools. Comes with Wi-Fi scanning, smart firewall, and anti-phishing protection.

Battery optimization. Offers an option to reduce battery drain on laptops.

System tune-up. Improves a computer’s performance by erasing unnecessary files that may slow down PC operations.

File shredder and file encryption. Securely deletes files or renders them unreadable in case of theft.

Vulnerability scanner. Scans and installs important Windows and application updates.

Secure VPN. Encrypts internet traffic with decent bandwidth speeds and unlimited browsing data.

Identity theft protection (US only). Monitors credit reports for unusual activity and includes a sizable insurance payout.

5. Avira Prime — Best for Fast Scans & Automated Software Updates

Avira’s Prime package really impressed me with it’s antivirus engine — it got exceptionally high detection rates and low false positives during my testing. Utilizing cloud-based technology to make scan speeds super quick and accurate, it scored a 100% detection rate against both old and new malware samples.

In addition to the state-of-the-art virus scanner, Avira offers:

PUA shield. Protects against potentially unwanted applications (PUAs) that can be hidden within legitimate software.

Firewall manager. Optimizes firewall settings based on desired levels of security.

Web protection. Protects against all kinds of malicious web content and phishing sites.

Email protection. Scans email attachments to check for malware and harmful links.

Software updater. Automatically updates many popular programs.

Outdated programs can expose systems to threats, so I was happy to discover that Software Updater identifies outdated programs and automatically updates them. It found 17 programs on my PC that desperately needed updating — some of which hadn’t been updated for 5 years — and it downloaded and installed all updates automatically.

Healthy eating tips for teens

Here are some helpful tips on how to meet the needs of a teen’s growing body.

We all have been in the phase where we couldn’t wait to grow up. Teenagers are looked upon by the kids younger to them. For younger kids, teenagers have the best life. But, like adults teenagers also deal with a lot of physical, mental, and emotional issues. Weight is one such issue that most teenagers have to deal with. And teenage girls are the main victims.

Teenagers go through years of growth spurts, hormone shifts, and body adjustments. Menstruation is the biggest change that teenage girls go through. It is difficult for them to accept the fact that menstruation is now an unavoidable part of life. On top of that because of the hormonal changes they experience physical changes. Fluctuation in weight creates a big blow to teenager’s self-esteem.

Teenage girls gaining weight is very normal. There are some girls who shed this weight once they enter adulthood. But there are few who gain unnecessary weight which becomes difficult for them to lose. This unwanted weight gain affects the kid very deeply and they follow all the fad diets for the fastest results. If you have to manage your diet according to your school timings, here is a more suitable diet plan for school time.

Consume a Balanced diet:

Most teen girls are conscious about their weight and appearance and tend to reduce their calorie intake to maintain their weight. They start starving themselves to lose weight. Girls forget that along with maintaining the weight they are still in the growing age. They still need enough calories for proper growth and maintenance. A proper weight loss diet plan for teenage girls should consist of an adequate amount of carbohydrates, proteins, fats along with vitamins and minerals. Consume proper 2 – 3 big meals and 2 – 3 mid meals or healthy snacks.

Eat lots of fiber:

Include a variety of fiber in your diet. Consume whole fruits, vegetables, oats, quinoa, whole grain cereals, pulses, sprouts, and bran fortified foods. A minimum of 5 – 6 servings of foods and vegetables is a must in a day. These fulfill the need for fiber, vitamins, and minerals.

Keep the proteins high:

High proteins are necessary for the growth and maintenance of the body. It boosts metabolism and aids weight loss. Include milk and products, egg, poultry, dals, pulses, sprouts, nuts, and seeds.

Stay Hydrated:

Avoid soda, aerated drinks, or any sugar-laden drinks. Replace these beverages with plain water. Try to refrain from drinking anything but water and unsweetened tea. Adequate water helps to burn excess fat. It has added value of clearing your skin issues that accompany PCOS. When you feel hungry between meals, try to consume water first. Your body might sometimes get confused between signals of thirst with hunger. Drinking ice cold water helps to increase your metabolism thereby reducing your weight.

Moderation is the key:

We all have food cravings. It would be very cruel if the teenager avoids something just to lose weight. It is ok to indulge in the high-calorie craving once in a while. Just key to healthy eating is “Eat everything in moderation”.

Do not follow a fad diet:

There is a lot of information available online. The girls might not be aware of the information available is authentic or just false info. It is always better to follow a balanced diet under the guidance of certified professionals.

Exercise more often:

Try to take up any outdoor sports activities like basketball, football, hockey, or cricket along with academics. Or else you can also go for walks or jog or swimming. Simple yoga is also beneficial for weight loss. At least 150 minutes in a week is required for appropriate weight loss.

Sleep sound:

Sound sleep helps your body and mind to relax. The body repairs itself while we sleep. There is a reduction in stress and also it burns calories.

The Inspiring Cricket Journey Of Poonam Yadav

0
Journey Of Poonam Yadav
Journey Of Poonam Yadav

Poonam Yadav was born on 24th August 1991 in Agra, Uttar Pradesh, India. Also, she plays in jersey number ’24’ for India Women. Poonam was born to a retired army officer, Raghuveer Singh Yadav, and Munna Devi.

Since childhood, she used to dress up like boys and usually played with boys more than girls in school and locality. She was a sporty girl from the very beginning and injuries, scars, or marks never really mattered to her. Her interest in cricket developed at a very tender age.

Initial struggles for Poonam Yadav:

At the age of eight, she started going to the stadium to play. But due to society and external pressure, soon, her father disallowed her to continue. One day, she ran away to the stadium without her father’s permission and brought her coach, Hemlatha Kala, home to talk to her parents. The former selector of India Women’s cricket team finally convinced him about her playing abilities and after that, he never stopped Poonam from playing cricket. Despite family support, she faced a lot of “sexism” from all quarters in the outside world. People around would pass comments on how can a girl play cricket or how can a girl come home late. But, she never paid attention to that criticism and focused only on her dream.

Soon, she was selected in the Central Zone domestic team. Then, she became a part of the Uttar Pradesh team and presently, she represents Railways in the domestic cricket. There was a time, around 2009-10, when her performance while playing for Uttar Pradesh dipped significantly and she had nearly thought of quitting cricket. But her coaches helped her rebuild her confidence. According to her, joining Railways was the turning point of her life as her game improved like never before and she never looked back after that.

Poonam Yadav – The spinning Wizzard

Although she had an interest in other sports activities, her short height did not go well with any other sport and, in cricket, it became a blessing in disguise for her. With her unique ability, she developed the skill to land the ball very near to the batter and became a highly skilled leg-spinner. While playing her, the batters are lured to step out of the crease and usually end up getting stumped behind the wickets. That is why a major part of wickets taken by her comes through stumpings.

Poonam Yadav with her mother and father

She made her T20 international debut against Bangladesh on 5th April 2013 and seven days later, on 12th April 2013, she made her ODI debut against the same opponents. The only international Test match she played, was against South Africa on 16th November 2014.

Poonam Yadav’s go-to persons

Mithali Raj, Harmanpreet Kaur, and Jhulan Goswami are her go-to persons in the Indian team. Particularly, she credits Mithali Raj for always guiding her about what and how to ball to a particular player or in a pressure situation.

Poonam Yadav’s dream-come-true moments

She was selected for the 2017 Women’s World Cup and her superb performance against Sri Lanka was one of the highest points of her international cricket career. Playing World Cup final at Lord’s and post-tournament meeting Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi were two ‘Dream-come-True’ moments for her.

Poonam Yadav – The Arjuna awardee

She was the joint-leading wicket-taker for India in the 2018 ICC Women’s T20 Wolrd Cup. In September 2018, she became India’s highest wicket-taker in Twenty20 Internationals surpassing veteran senior teammate Jhulan Goswami. Also, she is the only front-line bowler who has been in every T20 match for India in 2018. Due to her commendable stint with the ball in 2018, Poonam Yadav is nominated for the ‘Arjuna Award’ by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports in India.
