An app to find a missing dog
An app to find a missing dog

You do not have to give a ‘missing’ advertisement in a local newspaper to find your puppy. Thanks to the technology and some innovative thinking, you can now find your missing puppy with the help of an app called ‘Smart Snout’. The app is developed by Bradley Watson.

Bradley inspired by a police show in which cops used the fingerprint technology to nab culprits. He thought of using the same by treating missing dog’s nose like a human fingerprint. Experts believe that there is a unique pattern in a dog’s nose which is distinctive when coupled with the shape of its nostril openings.

Smart Snout going to give a lot of relief to dog owners

This new development may make microchipping an old phenomenon.

How it works?

  • Download the app – Smart Snout
  • Pay up for subscription
  • Fill in basic details such as name, breed and colour
  • Upload the picture of your dog’s nose
  • Once that information is completed, finder could simply scan the snout and the owner and the finder will be alerted to the dog’s identity
  • The app uses your phone’s camera to record the detail and pattern in the same way that scanners work on human fingertips.
  • This technology can make a unique biometric record of any dog’s identity within its database
  • The app has already acquired more than 2000 subscribers.

Smart Snout has been launched with the aim of deterring criminals from stealing your beloved dog. It is estimated dog thefts have risen following increased demand during pandemic induced lockdowns.

This new app may help fight the menace of dog snatching better than microchipping. While getting a chip implanted in your dog is a smart thing but authorities generally do not have sensors to track it.

Fight diabetes with lifestyle changes

The growing urbanisation has brought a lot of wealth and improved our lifestyle but it has come at a cost. We are now the diabetes capital of the world. But there is a ray of hope. Diabetes can be defeated with simple yet effective changes in lifestyle.

Health-Talk-Dr-Rakesh-Kumar
Health-Talk-Dr-Rakesh-Kumar

Dr Rakesh Kumar, Resident, RBTB Hospital, New Delhi shares his views and some useful tips to keep diabetes away from our lives. Here are the excerpts of our interview with him –

Question-1: Growing urbanisation is considered as one of the biggest contributor to the growth of diabetes among the masses. Do you think that time has come when we really need to apply a thoughtful approach to fight this disease which is likely to destroy a whole generation?

Answer-1: Yes, growing urbanization is one of the biggest contributors to the growth of diabetes. Now, India is known to be a global hub for diabetes, diseases can be broadly classified as communicable disease and non communicable disease.

Diabetes comes under non communicable disease among non-communicable diseases. It accounts for 25% alone and if we combine diabetes and hypertension, it accounts for nearly 40% of non communicable disease.

If we are talking about health burden we should never forget about economical burden and diabetes results in decrease in productivity, absence from work, dropout and premature mortality. Then what is urbanization? See, urbanization refers to transformation of village to cities. Urbanization has two angles one is developmental angle and other is health angle.

Developmental angle as we all know, it looks very fine, very good. On the other hand health angle is growing challenge for all of us.

Overcrowding which leads to communicable disease like COVID-19 as we are seeing today, since last one and a half years.

Non communicable disease incidence prevalence is increasing like cardiovascular disease, diabetes.

Scarcity of water and sanitization problem fourth is high pollution rate and its consequences like respiratory disease, lung cancer and all. See as we are discussing here only diabetes and urbanization that is increase in incidence and prevalence in non-communicable disease.

So, what is the risk factor for diabetes? One is low physical activity, second is low intake and intake of fruits and vegetables. Third is stress, pollution, high consumption of alcohol, carbonated water, sugar soft drinks and all. Low physical activity contributes nearly 38% in diabetes, low intake of fruits and vegetable contribute nearly 28%.

Question-2: There is a growing culture specially in the metro cities of not cooking at home and ordering food from outside which is mostly junk food. Do you think it is a serious issue that need to be highlighted and people should be sensitised against the harms of eating outside food.

Answer-2: See in urban areas large number of people living in small area that is more of more in densities there. Good healthy food is available to only few people. Many people do not have sufficient time to prepare food and those people undergo dietary dietary transformation that is shifting from healthy food to fast food that is chappati made from millet to Pizza burger box and people started depending upon processed food that is fast food which having high calorie and less nutritive value. I call it blank energy. In addition to this, lack of privacy in urban area lead to stress, anxiety, depression, these all contribute to diabetes too. As we talk about urbanization and diabetes, highest prevalence we can see in Southern estate including Puducherry, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh. I can say we are getting late to sensitize people to not to take junk food and embrace a healthy lifestyle.

Question-3: Very young people between the age group of 21-25 are also getting diabetic. What is your advice to them?

Answer-3: We should take food which contain fiber and protein. Simple diabetes is carbohydrate intolerance.

Nowadays, very young people between age of 20-25 years are also  getting diabetes. What is that we called as MODY means Maturity Onset Diabetes in Young.

Scientifically it is a trans Krypton factor defect.  It has very strong association with family history. I mean healthy lifestyle they can retard the diabetes. See there is evidence why such a group of people are suffering more and more now. So, there is direct correlation in direct correlation is with diabetes during pregnancy that is gestational diabetes. Other is if the baby born newborn baby weight is more than 3.5 Kg. There is much more chances for having early or early onset diabetes mellitus. So, proper anti natal checkup should be there and other advice is that adopt healthy lifestyle avoid junk food.

Question-4: How big is this issue is in rural India? Do you think urban India can learn something from rural India?

Answer-4: If we compare rural population from urban population, whether the prevalence of diabetes is less or equal it is very known. Earlier, urban population used to have more incidence and prevalence of diabetes as compared to rural population, but, nowadays, we can see that the urban ruler gap and narrowed and prevalence of diabetes has increased in both rural and urban India, but still there is less prevalence of diabetes among rural population as compared to urban population. There is a reason – rural people have a healthier lifestyle and they do not consume processed food. They have physically very active

Question-5: What are your top tips to those who are fighting diabetes?

Answer-5: So, at last what is the conclusive statement, my conclusion statement is that in urban population people are getting married very late which contribute to diabetes and hypertension and other non communicable diseases. So, at last take home message is lifestyle modification like weight reduction, adopt DASH (Dietary Approach To Stop Hypertension) diet and go for daily aerobic exercise for at least one hour. Moderation of alcohol consumption is also required and one should also stop smoking and seek medical advice if required.

Happy News Of The Day :-) A Dog Rescued From Rising Tides With A Sausage Attached To A Drone

Drone rescues a dog
Drone rescues a dog

In this era of glorious uncertainties, there are still a few things which are certain – like someone’s love for a dog which knows no boundaries. A dog was recently rescued from rising tides with a sausage attached to a drone – setting another example of our unconditional love for dogs.

What actually happened?

The dog called Millie, went missing was later found stranded on mudflats near Portsmouth – a city in England. The chances of Millie being reunited with her owner seemed increasingly unlikely, when a rescuer had the idea of attaching a sausage to a drone with the hope of tempting her to safety.

That prompted all the rescuers including police, firefighters, and coastguards to swiftly swing into action

How the plan worked?

Sausage-wielding drones were deployed as part of a massive dog rescue operation after the beloved pet got lost on some dangerous mud flats. Rescuers turned to Millie’s favourite treat to tempt her away from the high tide and back towards safety.

The drone plan worked eventually

The pork-dangling plan worked, with the dog following the sausage towards her rescuers, away from the rising tides, to safety. The maximum take-off weight of the drone had to be checked before attaching the sausage to it to make sure it would fly.

A happy ending

Once on higher ground, Millie ran away a second time, leaving her owner Emma Oakes worried once again for her safety. The pet was eventually found inland from the marsh and ran into the arms of her owner’s father when she was found.

Munich The Edge of War review : Another boring World War 2 Movie Which Misses The Point

Munich The Edge of War Movie review
Munich The Edge of War Movie review

The movie is based on Robert Harris’ novel ‘Munich’ and deals with the events related to one of the most horrific evens in world history – World War 2. In adapting Harris’ work, screenwriter Ben Power uses the story of a fictional friendship as an introduction to the controversial policy of appeasement toward Adolf Hitler (Ulrich Matthes) pursued by the U.K. and France in an effort to avert World War II.

The plot of director Christian Schwochow’s movie centres on real events, particularly the 1938 Munich conference and its thwarted peace agreement between Germany and England.

Disappointing and frustrating

This movie’s tempered, heavily qualified answers to a lot of questions related to Nazis are just upsetting. The Edge of War had a great opportunity to explore how even smart and educated Germans were seduced by Hitler’s hackneyed populist rhetoric?

Instead, the film tries to instil a sense of suspense when we are all painfully aware of the end result. It doesn’t work. It would have worked if story had been alternate-history, and was leading the audience to an unknown outcome.

The British WWII drama “Munich – The Edge of War” begins as a prim spy thriller and ends as an insufferable civics lesson.

Uninspiring performances

The performances, despite a solid cast, are also quite disappointing. An actor of Jeremy Irons’ caliber is saddled with a thinly written Chamberlain. MacKay only delivers blank expressions.

Slovakia Gives Regulatory Approvals To Flying Car

Stuck in traffic on your way to office? You must have thought adding wings to your car and flying it all the way to your office.

This dream has finally taken shape in Slovakia.

Slovak Transport Authority has given all regulatory approvals including the certificate of airworthiness in accordance with European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) standards to AirCar.

The flying car has successfully completed first intercity flight

AirCar completed its first intercity flight in June 2021.

How it works?

The dual-mode vehicle has already completed more than 70 hours of test flights, 200 take-offs and landings, and makes tight 45-degree turns. Its wings are fully retractable and it is currently equipped with a 160 horsepower BMW engine, a fixed propeller and a ballistic parachute.

The process of transforming from car to plane takes less than three minutes. Everything is automated, so a single button command is all it takes to change it.

The current prototype has a range of 500 kilometres and requires 28 litres of fuel. Industry experts are confident that very soon we will have a prototype with a range of 1 000 kilometres (621 miles) and fly at 300 kilometres per hour.

What’s Next?

KleinVisionm the manufacturers of the car, will still have to obtain the certification of type of aircraft to launch the commercial exploitation of its aircraft from the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA).

It defines a new category of a sports car and a reliable aircraft. Its certification was both a challenging and fascinating task.

German flying-taxi startup Lilium and Uber are two other players exploring opportunities in flying car business.

Exciting times ahead for all of us stuck in traffic!

Cry, Feel Sad, Complain And Scream. Its Very Normal. Do Not Get Trapped Into Toxic Positivity

0
Toxic positivity has its pitfalls
Toxic positivity has its pitfalls

Why the ‘good vibes only’ culture is making our teenagers life miserable. It is Okay to be sad sometimes. It is absolutely okay to not chase happiness all the time. It is not the toxic negativity but toxic positivity, which is one of the leading causes of depression in our youth.

Being a “happy” person is not toxic positivity. Denial of everything other than positivity, however, is toxic.

Pandemic induced restrictions denied kids their ‘happy’ spaces

Let’s not fool ourselves any longer

Positive thinking is sold as a path to freedom. Teenagers are often forced to asked to “change their perception to change their mind” when things go wrong. There is a constant hammering of “look on the bright side”; “smile and you will be happy”. These hollow chestnuts shame anyone who can’t muster positivity in times of distress.

We can’t have ‘good vibes’ all the time

During the pandemic, we have noticed a resurgence of the “good vibes only” culture: the one where if you express anything other than positivity, you’re negative, emitting bad vibes and dragging everyone else down. Everyone was forcing it – government, religion, influencers – and our teenagers got trapped in toxic positivity

It is counterproductive

Toxic positivity has much deeper and darker roots. At its core, toxic positivity is a form of gaslighting. It tells people that what they’re feeling isn’t real, they’re making it up and that they’re the only ones who feel this way.

While neither extreme – chronic positivity nor chronic negativity – is helpful,

It forces us to suppress emotions, which can be destructive for our physical and mental health.  It also impacts our relationships. Despite good intentions, and instead of simply listening and showing empathy, we often just make the person feel silenced and ashamed.

Do not look the other way

Our teenagers need our support and they also need to be told that life is a mixed bag of different feelings – negative and positive. Keeping ourselves in dark doesn’t help. We have to stand up and recognise some hard realities of life.

We should not perpetuate the “happy housewife” myth, instead recognise gender inequality and work towards a more balanced society. We should encourage healthy eating and a healthier lifestyle instead of telling everyone they should just love the skin they’re in.

Pandemic has left us with a lot of challenges to deal with – toxic positivity is one of them that needs to be dealt with smartly. Our teenagers shouldn’t become a victim of this privileged attitude.

Google Comes Up With A New Plan To Track You Around The Web. Will It Work?

Federated Learning of Cohorts (FLoC) is officially dead and a new baby ‘Topics’ is born.

Google has decided to kill its ambitious program – Federated Learning of Cohorts (FLoC) for now. The tech giant has opted for a new interest-based targeting proposal called Topics. There is a note of caution.

It will have a process in place to exclude potentially sensitive topics like race and sexual orientation.

How will it work?

A browser determines a handful of topics with ‘Topics’ that represent your top interests based on your browsing history. Up to five topics are associated with the browser. Topics are stored for three weeks and the processing occurs on the device, without involving any external servers.

When a user goes to a participating website, the Topics API selects three topics (one from each of the past three weeks) to share with that site and its advertising partners. The site itself or its advertising partners can opt in to the Topics API.

One of the main distinctions between Google’s previous targeting proposal, FLoC, and the Topics API is that Topics does not group users into cohorts.

Why should we care?

Google is planning to deprecate third-party cookies in Chrome. With this announcement, it has given a fair idea of what audience targeting options will be available. Google ran into a number of challenges with FLoC, including lack of adoption, industry pushback and regulatory issues.

It may have addressed some of those challenges with this new proposal, but adoption among other browsers may still be a challenge.

Interesting Facts About Republic Day
Interesting Facts About Republic Day

Republic Day parade is an event that has inspired many youths to take up armed forced as a career choice. It is organised every year on January 26 to commemorate the coming into effect of our Constitution, which is the governing document of our country.

It is also more than the grand parade and tableaux that showcase the military strength. It is also the time to honour remarkable feats of individuals with awards such as Gallantry awards.

All women contingent inspires women to make a career in armed forces

Here are 5 interesting facts that will inspire all teenagers to become army officers representing India on Rajpath –

Fact #1 : The glorious Rajpath

The first republic day parade didn’t happen at Rajpath, which was known by Kingsway at that time. Irwin Stadium (now National Stadium) hosted the first parade in 1950. Rajpath became the permanent venue for the parade from 1955 onwards.

Fact #2 : The 21-gun salute

The cavalier bodyguards of the President salute the National Flag, with a 21 guns salute. It is interesting to know that firing is not done with 21 canons? Instead, 7- cannons of the Indian army, which are known as “25- Ponders” are used for the firing in 3 rounds.

Fact #3 : A special army camp

Armed forces are allocated a special camp near the premises of the India Gate where all the Tanks, Armoured Vehicles are kept for investigation and beautification. Whitewash is performed in 10 stages mostly but this time maybe it will be different.

Fact #4 : Safety and investigation

Each army personnel who participates in the event of the parade has to pass through 4 levels of investigation. Besides this, their arms are thoroughly checked to ensure that their arms are not loaded with live bullets.

Fact #5 : Flypast

The most fascinating part of the event is “flypast”. Responsibility for “flypast” lies on the Western Airforce Command, which involves the participation of around 41 Aircraft. The Aircrafts involved in the parade take off from different centers of the Airforce and reach the Rajpath at a fixed time. A lot of co-ordination and precise execution is required to ensure everything happens as per the schedule.

Who disappoints women the most – Kim Kardashian or Kate Moss? This new study uncovers an uncomfortable truth

0
Who disappoints women Kim Kardashian or Kate Moss
Who disappoints women Kim Kardashian or Kate Moss

A study conducted by the researchers Sarah McComb and Jennifer Mills at York University in Toronto; Canada says that Kim Kardashian’s hourglass figure is more harmful for women’s body image than Kate Moss’ thin frame.

Kim Kardashian is a perfect example of ‘hourglass’ figure

The study has been published in the journal Body Image.

The researchers identified more than 400 female undergraduate students, all between the ages of 18 and 25 years to conduct this study.

Women were shown Instagram photos of either ‘slim-thick’, ‘thin’ or ‘fit-ideal’ body types. They were asked to compare themselves to three body ideals. The researchers found women exposed to ‘slim-thick’ photos experienced more dissatisfaction towards their own weight and appearance.

The experts found the ‘slim-thick’ body ideal was worse for body dissatisfaction. ‘Slim-thick’ or ‘hourglass’ figure describes women with a ‘large butt and thighs and small waist and flat stomach’

A ‘thin’ body describes slender shapes with flat stomachs and small waists, like Kate Moss, and ‘fit’ describes more toned and athletic female physiques.

Experts believe that the pressure felt by young women to attain a Kim Kardashian type physique could be even more harmful than pressure in society to be ultra-thin.

An example of a ‘fit’ woman is Jillian Michaels, a US personal trainer, businesswoman, author and TV personality.

The study further says that three types of body-ideal imagery resulted in greater weight and appearance dissatisfaction and less overall body satisfaction. The study may set the alarm bell ringing in young women across the world who often compromise on nutrition to maintain an hourglass figure which ultimately destroys their health and self-confidence.

Twitter goes Instagram way – plans to introduce ‘Close Friends’ like feature, tentatively called ‘Twitter Flock’

0
Twitter and Instagram new feature
Twitter and Instagram new feature

Twitter will soon let you share posts only with a group of close friends – a feature that the netizens were asking for a long time. It is going to be similar to Instagram’s Close Friends feature. In others words, you’ll be limiting your tweets to your “Flock.”

It is believed that you will be able to add up to 150 members. Only these users can view or reply to tweets sent out to your Flock. You will also be able to remove people from this list at any time, and they won’t get a notification.

Twitter first gave us a glimpse of the feature last July, which was called “Trusted Friends” at the time.

Twitter Flock is one of the most anticipated features

Twitter will show an option to select its intended audience, before you hit the send button. It has similarities with Communities, a feature Twitter launched last year that lets people share discussions on a specific topic.

Flock shouldn’t be confused with “Fleets,” the ephemeral tweet option that was designed to compete with Instagram Stories, Facebook Stories, Snapchat, and more. Fleets never caught on with Twitter users and the company canned the feature in August, less than a year after the feature launched.

If you’re in someone’s Flock and they send out a tweet, a label may appear beneath that tweet, reading: “You can see this Tweet because the author has added you to their Flock.”

Flock is still in the beta stage and there is no confirmation yet on when it will finally be launched.

Pushpa Review : Our Obsession With A Hypermasculine Hero Is Not Over Yet

Pushpa the movie review
Pushpa the movie review

Pushpa movie worships and celebrates a certain type of masculinity which has no respect for women. The movie also glorifies caste-based hierarchical oppressive structures that are still incumbent in our society. The list continues.

Pushpa the movie poster
Pushpa the movie poster

Hero or a Super Hero?

The hero of the movie is just like any other hero of any other movie that we have seen in the past. There is nothing new in his portrayal. He has to win all fights; he is entitled to save his love interest from villains and he has to mock elders to establish himself as a macho man.

He also needs to be inhumanly strong physically, not flinching even when being beaten badly and fighting back against the baddies. Watching a hero like him could be damage the mental health of the people watching him on the screen.

Worships patriarchy

Pushpa pushes back women empowerment efforts backward. As a society we have made some progress to ensure that not having a legitimate father’s name should not come as a deterrence but the movie show otherwise. The hero gets uncomfortable whenever the question of his father came again establishing the same old regressive mindset.

False portrayal of the notions of purity

The female lead follows the society-mandated construct of her virginity. She reserves to right of first kiss for whoever becomes her husband. This can be taken as re-enforcing the pure-impure dichotomy made for controlling the agencies and autonomy of women. What is more surprising is the fact that the same movie normalises a man sleeping with underprivileged women.

Thus, Pushpa is a work of art that is heavily influenced and goes on to normalise patriarchal structures.

7 lessons we can learn from Africa to ensure teenage pregnancy doesn’t spoil a whole generation

0
Teenage pregnancy is a cause of concern globally
long-term consequences of early pregnancies on young girls

Young girls in particular are increasingly dealing with early and unwanted pregnancies, which is further exacerbating poverty and inequality. There are signs that teenage pregnancies are on the rise in several African countries — due to pandemic induced lockdowns and closure of school which provided a safety net to girl children.

A healthy relationship between parents and kids is must to avoid teenage pregnancy

According to UNICEF, difficulties during pregnancy and childbirth are among the leading causes of death among young women between 15 and 19 in Africa.

Health experts and teen behaviour observers say that there is cause for concern and are warning of the long-term consequences early pregnancies have on young girls.

1. Safety structure is a must

Girls are much more vulnerable to sexual abuse without such safety structures, which help to educate them about sexual and reproductive health. Even if the schools are closed, there has to be a social safety structure which acts like a safe haven just like a school where girls can stand up for themselves and fend off unwanted sexual advances.

2. Fighting poverty should be the priority

Growing poverty as one reason for rising teen pregnancy rates. Poor people marry off their teenage girls much like a business deal, which only exacerbates the situation According to the Ugandan government, prior to the pandemic the teen pregnancy rate was one in four teenagers. Now, it’s nearly one in three girls in every village.

3. Greater emphasis on sex education

One reason for the high rate of teenage pregnancy is that girls have very limited access to contraceptives or the option of safe abortion. There is a need for a comprehensive sex education, which should be offered to young people at appropriate ages in and out of school.

4. Invest in primary healthcare

A robust primary healthcare infrastructure has to be in place where teenagers can go and ask for help. There is a need to encourage them to attend primary health care clinics in their communities. This will boost their confidence and make them aware of the long term health risks involved with teenage pregnancy.

5. Transparent communication is key

Aa parents, we have to be honest and open. We need to listen carefully to find out the pain points in a teenager’s life. Make your conversations back and forth—two ways. Talking with your children about sex will not encourage them to become sexually active instead it will give them confidence to share their problems and issues with you and not with someone who may try to take the advantage of their vulnerabilities.

6. Supervise and monitor without being snoopy

There is no harm in having a complete knowledge about your teenage kids’ whereabouts. Give them the independence they need but ensure that they are safe. We should also ensure that they are involved in useful activities.

7. Ensure early intervention if necessary

Watch out for warning signals. Intervene early if your teenage daughter’s grade start falling for no apparent reason. School failure is one of the key risk factors for teen parenthood. Keep track of your children’s grades and meet with teachers.

5 simple steps to create a workplace where women are treated equally and respectfully

0
steps to create a workplace where women are treated equally
steps to create a workplace where women are treated equally

Women are no more ‘also ran’ in the corporate world. They have challenged the status quo and have succeeded in creating a lot of opportunities to prove their excellence. We have indeed come a long way from the days when women were generally confined to their homes spending their whole lives doing household chores. This is still a lot that needs to be done to ensure there are greater opportunities for women to use their potential.

Camaraderie between men and women is essential

So, here are 10 steps to ensure women get equal treatment at workplace.

#1 No prejudices

Women are as productive as their male counterparts and if given an opportunity, they can even break boundaries. Do not say no to them just because you think they won’t be able to compete and complete a task in office. They have been fighting against gender-based prejudices since ages. We need to recognise their struggle.

#2 Ensure pay parity

Women never ask for more pay because of their gender. They are happy if they get paid as much as their male counterparts. This is all they have been fighting for but needle is yet to move.

#3 Let women lead

A proven way to overcome many systemic barriers to a woman’s success has been increased participation by women all level. Empowered them as the change agents. A woman’s voice and her ability to become a leader in her community is fundamental to empowering women.

#4 Promote flexibility

Simply put, flexible work arrangements are alternate arrangements or schedules from the traditional working day and week. Employees may choose a different work schedule to meet personal or family needs. The pandemic induced work-from-home model has proved that it works.

#5 Invest in skill enhancement

Encourage your women team members to volunteer for skill enhancement courses – both short term and long term. This is indeed a key requirement in today’s times to ensure that they remain relevant in a rapidly evolving work environment.

Top 10 tips to avoid sports injuries which are hurting our young kids

0
tips to avoid sports injuries
tips to avoid sports injuries

Every year lakhs of kids globally are treated in the emergency departments for sports and recreation-related injuries. There is a possibility of getting injured in any sport either from the trauma of collision with the other players or from overuse or misuse of a body part. But contact sports such as football or basketball can be expected to result in a higher number of injuries.

Sports injuries are increasing
Communication should inspire kids

Here are top 10 tips to ensure that playing a sport doesn’t turn into a nightmare –

1. Communication is key

Create a transparent environment in which a young athlete understands that he or she should talk with you and seek help if experiencing pain or something that just doesn’t feel right. It is fact that a few kids just try to push through pain. This should be prevented.

2. Go for trials

It is a good idea to first go for trials before taking up any sport. It is a great way to determine if your young athlete is fit to play. It also keeps them from further injuring themselves.

Warm up is necessary

3. Cross-training

It is essential for athletes to keep changing the sports or activities they are doing so that continuous stress on the same muscles and joints is prevented.

4. Warming up

Stretching is an important prevention technique that should become a habit in young athletes. There should be a mix of static and dynamic stretching. Toe touches and stretches are considered static, while jumping jacks are considered dynamic.

Protective gears are a must

5. Adequate rest

Athletes of all ages need to rest between practices, games and events. The most common injuries seen in young athletes are overuse injuries — too many sports and not enough rest. You should ideally plan an offseason for their athlete to recuperate better.

6. A well-balanced diet

A well-balanced diet full of fruits, vegetables and lean proteins, and to maintain a regular eating schedule is essential. You should ensure that your young athlete gets breakfast, lunch and dinner around the same time each day.

Proper hydration is key

7. Hydration

Athletes should have adequate water before, during and after play. You should immediately consult a doctor if there is any sign of a heat-related illness such as fatigue, nausea, vomiting or fainting.

8. Protective gears

No athlete should be allowed to take the field without proper equipment such as helmets, pads and shoes. They are essential for injury prevention.

Protective kids are important

9. Adherence to technique and guidelines

There should be no deviation from the standard practices. There should be a proper way to tackle an opponent to avoid a concussion. Safety is top priority.

10. Seek help

Despite all the precautions, even if the injury happens, that should not be ignored and treated immediately. Watch out for warning signals like change in athlete’s technique, such as a limp when running, throwing differently or rubbing a leg during activity.

Bathroom offers a scope for creativity

Your bathroom could be a great place add a little spark in your love life. With little imagination, it could be just the ideal place to get intimate with your partner. Little space is not a deterrent but an excellent opportunity. If you know what I mean. That extra close contact ensures a lot of sultry results.

Here is your quick guide for intimate bath moments –

Warm water is an added advantage

Warm water eases tense muscles and the distraction-free zone ensures your mind is away from all distraction. It also creates the perfect environment to indulge into instant foreplay.

Set the expectation right

In real world, it’s definitely not going to be like the movies. There is a possibility that it may get a bit awkward in the beginning. A good sense of humour and communication is the key here.

Hygiene is important

Hygiene is important

You clean your tub beforehand, but you should also shower off first. Ensure that the bathwater is free of chemical-based soap, body wash, and body dirt to avoid infections.

Check water level

Don’t fill up your bath as high as you normally would since two people will make it rise much higher than just one. You’ll also want to check the temp with your hand before hopping in to reduce the chance of burns.

Play mind games

Play mind games

It is a good idea to try stimulating each other mentally and ensure that you’re careful and everything’s consensual. The options after that are pretty much limitless.

Safety first

Personal safety is the biggest thing to consider. Ensure that the floor is not slippery. Between soaps and lubes and oils, the tub is likely slick, which can be dangerous when getting in and out or switching positions. Be careful.

Stay away from chemicals

You should opt for pH balanced soaps to avoid UTIs, bacterial vaginosis, and infections.

Set the mood right

  • Light some candles around
  • Get some wine
  • Play with the water pressure

10 Things Managers Should Never Ask Employees To Do

0
Things Managers Should Never Ask Employees To Do
Things Managers Should Never Ask Employees To Do

Want to develop your employee management and leadership skills? There are certain things that a manager should never do? Use these 10 management tips to avoid unexpected messes that can make the office environment unhealthy or interrupt work.

Let’s take a look –

1. Cancel a Vacation

Sometimes the world comes to an end, and you truly do need all hands on deck. However, most crises are caused by a lack of planning. Don’t ask an employee to cancel a pre-planned vacation, especially if there are other friends and family members counting on that person, and they have purchased tickets.

2. Work Off the Clock

It is true that managers are required to reach certain payroll targets, They are tempted to tell employees to clock out and then finish mopping up for the night.

Don’t do this. Even if you have to do that please ensure that all of your non-exempt employees must be paid for every extra hour they worked.

3. Falsify Records

It should be avoided at all costs. It may begin with something very small—like the date received on a document, or sending a vendor an email saying that the check is in the mail when it’s not. You and your employees should strive for 100% honesty.

4. Take the Fall for You

Be honest to yourself. Your mistake, your consequence. And, that goes for a lot of things you didn’t specifically authorize or request either. Your department is your responsibility. It is never okay to throw employees under the bus instead you should try and protect them even if the mistake is theirs.

5. Work Crazy Hours

Some businesses have crazy hours, especially cyclical ones but it’s not okay to push your employees to the brink by making them work more hours than they had signed on to work.

7. Put Up With an Abusive Customer

Stand up and face it with your head held high. Take over an abusive customer yourself, or kick the customer to the curb. Your employees deserve respectful professional treatment. See that they get it.

8. Put Up With a Bully Coworker

Bullying should be discouraged. You have to work hard to make your department a place where people act with respect. It’s your job to get rid of a person whose only job is to create troubles for everyone around.

9. Work While Truly Sick

This should be avoided specially in a post Corona pandemic world. If you force employees to come into work while sick, they will spread the germs, and everyone else will get sick too. Send them home and allow them back only when they are fully recovered.

10. Donate to Charity

Charity is fabulous but it should not be forced.

Requiring them to donate is docking their salary which is highly unfair.

Consent Is Important. It Is The Foundation Of Your Relationship. Respect It.

Consent Is Important
Consent Is Important

Dating apps have revolutionised the world of love and romance in modern time. All you need to do is create an account on dating apps such as Tinder and Bumble etc, swipe right and get ready to meet the love of your live in a smart outfit. Its amazing to see how quickly the world around us has taken a huge transition from roses on dates to ‘your place or mine?’

Consent Is Important

It is a fact that dating apps have empowered people’s choices of staying single and yet finding their sexual partners just by swiping on a dating apps.

But the question still remains, ‘how to ensure consent remains relevant in online dating?’

Consent is much more than a simple ‘yes’ or ‘no’

Consent can’t only be defined by a yes or no. Your partner needs to feel comfortable before he/she take the next step. Remember, there are no muddy waters. Communication is key and it has to be transparent.

Consent is much more than a simple ‘yes’ or ‘no’

In modern dating there is also a growing trend of ‘respecting boundaries. According to Tinder’s Future of Dating report, the use of the word ‘boundaries’ went up to 28% while ‘consent’ went up to 21% in the dating app. With this, people can be clearer with their expectations and boundaries when it comes to dating intimacy details.

Another important point to note is that silence is not consent. You should understand that not saying a no doesn’t mean the person has said a yes.

A long road ahead

Despite greater awareness about the concept of consent in modern relationships, it is rather unfortunate that many people still don’t understand the importance of consent. The recent “MarriageStrike trend on twitter proves that the era of peak patriarchy is not over yet.

This trend is also seen as a sly victory of the feminist movement. Many social activists believe that men deciding to opt out of marriage if marital rape is criminalised is a huge win-win for the feminist movement.

What can we do as partners?

We just have to ensure that the consent of our partner is top priority in whatever we are doing with them – household chores, travel plans, kid’s education and even SEX!

The recipe is as simple, no complication and no tall talks. Keep it is sweet and straight.

7 Tips For Raising A Friendly Dog Who Spreads Happiness All Around

Tips For Raising A Friendly Dog
Tips For Raising A Friendly Dog

“Everything I know I learned from dogs.” – Nora Roberts (author, The Search)

It is true that dogs are our best friends and they love us unconditionally. If raised well, they become a part of our family therefore it becomes important to ensure that they get proper upbringing just like a child.

It is essential you schedule time in such a way that dogs get all the attention and love and care that they deserve.

  1. A clean environment

Every dog deserves a clean environment which is comfortable, dry, draught-free, and a quiet place to rest. You must avoid a wet place that can make your dog unwell. Provide your dog with access to an appropriate place where they can go to the toilet. You should also give them constant access to a safe hiding place to escape if they feel afraid.

  • Fresh water

Your dog needs a constant supply of fresh water since water makes up most of your dog’s body—about 60 percent for an adult dog. Water keeps their organs healthy and, in particular, helps the kidneys flush out toxins from the blood. Fresh intake of water also promotes a healthy cardiovascular system, keeping essential electrolytes in balance.

Quality diet for dogs
  • Quality diet

A nutritious, balanced diet is essential to keeping your dog healthy. Be sure to pick the food that’s right for your dog’s stage of life — puppy, pregnant or nursing, or adult. There are also foods that are approved for all stages. When it comes to wet or dry food, both can have benefits.

  • Regular health check ups

One of the benefits of doing a regular health check will help you easily identify any changes. You should perform this basic health check each week, keep a record of your findings and report any areas of concern to your vet. This will also help your dog get used to be handled on a regular basis. This is very helpful when you have to go to the vet.

  • Exercise

It is essentials for dogs to get their daily exercise irrespective of weather conditions. You need to walk your dog every day, sometimes several times a day. You can run your dog up and down the stairs, set up an obstacle course, play with him a game like fetch and keep away and even get your dog on the treadmill.

  • Communication

Dogs use face and body language to communicate, but their body language is very different from ours. You should take time and keenly observe their movements and actions to recognize stress or discomfort. A constant eye contact from your dog is his way of showing his trust and affection towards you. Always keep an eye on his eyes.

  • Reproductive control

Spaying or neutering is the most effective method of preventing unwanted puppies. There are alternatives as well. A removable implant called Suprelorin stops testosterone and sperm production for months at a time in male dogs is also a popular way to avoid unwanted breeding.

Poonam Yadav inspirational story

Indian Women’s Cricket is no more a poor cousin of its male counterpart. It has got its share of attention and adulation from cricket fans with some sterling performances in recent years. Poonam Yadav, the petite spinner, is one of the female cricketers who have delivered some of the most memorable victories on the ground. She is a star now but she has reached this position after immense struggle both on and off the field.

A humble beginning

Poonam belongs to Agra – a town in the northern state of Uttar Pradesh, India. Her childhood was riddled with struggle just like any other Indian middle-class family with limited opportunities to make ends meet. Her father Raghubir Singh Yadav, is a retired army officer and her mother, Munni Devi, is a homemaker.

Poonam Yadav humble beginning

She was a regular at local cricket stadiums when she was only eight years old but external pressure forced her father to restrict her movements. He finally got convinced only after her coach – Hemlata (A former selector of Indian women’s cricket team) spoke to him and assured him of Poonam’s immense potential. Her struggle didn’t really end there as she had to face “sexism” from all quarters in the outside world. But taunts and jibes didn’t deter her and she continued her journey towards excellence.

Turning obstacles into advantage

Poonam’s height restricted the options available to make a mark for herself in the cricket field. But she chose to turn this shortcoming into her biggest strength as it gave her a chance to bowl high and the trajectory often stumped the batsmen. Her bowling style became her biggest advantage and helped Poonam secure her place in the playing eleven. Her faster googlies are now considered as most dangerous deliveries.

Career Highlights

  • Poonam started her cricketing by playing for the Central Zone, Uttar Pradesh and the Railways in domestic cricket.
  • She made her international debut in 2013 against Bangladesh in the Women’s Tewnty20 International tournament.
  • She was the joint-leading wicket-taker for India in the 2018 ICC Women’s T20 Wolrd Cup.

Covid Pandemic Is A Double Whammy For Teenagers – Mental Illness And Obesity Killing A Whole Generation

0
Mental Illness And Obesity
Mental Illness And Obesity

The ongoing Covid pandemic has destroyed some of the most precious years of teenagers all over the world. Not only they were deprived of their natural habitat for too long, they also have to now struggle with growing obesity which has always been a major concern for teenagers.

Data confirms why teenage obesity should be a worldwide health concern?

Childhood obesity rates have increased substantially over the past year in across the globe. The problem is no longer restricted only to high-income countries and societies.

Low-income and middle-income countries are also staring at frightening levels of teenage obesity. In 2018, almost half the world’s children younger than 5 years with overweight lived in Asia and a quarter in Africa, with the number in Africa rising by just under 45% between 2000 and 2018.

It is indeed a worldwide health issue now with the effects of the pandemic and national lockdowns seemingly adding to the issue. There have been frequent school closures, travel restrictions and limitations on meeting with people have resulted in a more sedentary lifestyle since the outbreak of Covid-19 pandemic.

The CDC Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report says that the rate of BMI increase almost doubled in US children and adolescents aged 2–19 years during the pandemic compared to pre-pandemic.

Data published in The Lancet Diabetes & Endocrinology revealed a positive association between increasing BMI and admission to ICU due to COVID-19.

Long-term effects can destroy a whole generation

Children with overweight and obesity are more likely to become adults with obesity and to develop non-communicable diseases such as diabetes and cardiovascular disease at a younger age than children considered to have a healthy weight.

There is also an increased risk of cancer, premature death, and disability later in life.

Why teenage obesity should worry India?

The National Family Health Survey observes the continuous rise in obesity among children under five years of age.

The number of overweight children increased from 2.1 per cent in NFHS-4 to 3.4 per cent in NFHS-5.

Another worrying finding is the fact that 33 states and union territories registered a spike in the number of overweight children. This has largely happened because of the lack of physical activity and unhealthy food habits.

Covid Pandemic - indiaobese
Teenage Obesity

According to the NFHS-5, several states and union territories, including Maharashtra, Gujarat, Mizoram, Tripura, Lakshadweep, Jammu and Kashmir, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, West Bengal, Andhra Pradesh, and Ladakh, have registered increase in the percentage of obesity among children below five years of age in comparison to NFHS-4 conducted between 2015 and 2016.

A guide to fight teenage obesity

Health experts believe that cost-effective interventions such as WHO’s ‘best buys’ can help fight teenage obesity effectively.

In addition to this, there is a need for effective programmes and policies in multiple sectors to address overnutrition, undernutrition, mobility and physical activity.

Homeopathy Advantages
Homeopathy Advantages

Homeopathy is a medical system that is popular for the treatment of chronic and recurring diseases of all types such as skin diseases, joint diseases, auto-immune diseases, etc. It is also popular for the treatment of acute diseases such as colds and flues, throat and lung infections, aches, pains, and injuries, diarrhoea, dysentery, and more. It is not usually indicated for critical diseases such as severe infections such as malaria, pneumonia, tuberculosis, heart or kidney failures, accidents, etc.

All the diseases cannot be described here, obviously.

2. Gives lasting relief:

Well, even conventional medicine is effective. Then, why homeopathy? The superiority of homeopathy is in a fact that the relief offered by it in the treatment of chronic diseases is quite lasting for many months or years. This lasting relief is achieved because homeopathy treats the root of the diseases. The approach in homeopathy is such that it addresses the patient’s physical, disease, emotional, emotional and genetic totality; and treats the disease traits rather than treating diseases superficially. Depending on the nature of the diseases and its cause, the cure achieved by homeopathy may last for a very long time, many times for over decades or more.

3. Safe and free from side-effects:

Homeopathy is essentially a safe system of medicine, free from any adverse effects if used correctly. Some of the other benefits and advantages of homeopathy include its cost-effectiveness, easy to administer, child-friendliness and it can be used along with other forms of medications.

Teenagers fighting mental issues need professional help

Warning Signals

Keep an eye on your teenage kid if there is sudden drop in their grades, a disinterest in friends, or out-of-character irritability. If at least one of those symptoms is present, you have to be watchful.

In addition to this, if your kid has experienced few of the following symptoms nearly every day, for at least two weeks, he or she might be diagnosed with major depressive disorder –

  • Irregular sleep pattern
  • Constant feeling of guilt for no apparent reason
  • Drop in energy level
  • Lack in concentration
  • Sudden drop or uptick in appetite
  • Lack of motivation
  • Suicidal tendencies

Types of teen mental issues

A report by World Health Organisation says that globally, one in seven 10-19-year-olds experiences a mental disorder, accounting for 13% of the global burden of disease in this age group.

Depression, anxiety and behavioural disorders are among the leading causes of illness and disability among adolescents. Suicide is the fourth leading cause of death among 15-19 year-olds.

Here are some of the most common mental issues that the teens are fighting across the globe –

  1. Generalized anxiety—Excessive worry about everyday matters
  2. Social phobias—Severe feelings of self-consciousness and insecurity in social settings
  3. Depression—Persistent feelings of sadness, anxiety, and/or emptiness

You should see your child’s pediatrician or family physician first. Their familiarity with your child’s medical history can make it faster and easier to reach a diagnosis.

Early detection and treatment

The consequences of ignoring adolescent mental health conditions extend to adulthood therefore it becomes crucial to address the needs of adolescents with mental health conditions. The key to address this is to prioritise non-pharmacological approaches, and respecting the rights of children in line with the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child and other human rights instruments are key for adolescents’ mental health.

Ask an expert

If you suspect your teen may have a mental health issue, seek professional help without further delay. It is also a good idea to consult your child’s physician about your concerns or have a detailed conversation with a trained mental health professional.

11 Tips for Career Planning at Any Age or Career Stage

Career planning is not something that you do once and then forget. Considering that research has found that the average worker will change careers – not jobs but careers – five to seven times in their lifetime, career planning is an activity you should do at least once a year.

Succeeding in a constantly changing workplace requires a career management plan. Employers always want to attract, hire, and retain employees who provide the best value. Think about yourself as a business with a product to sell and create a strategy for marketing your value in the workplace.

1. Keep an up-to-date resume

One of the most important steps in planning for the future of your career is to be ready to pounce when opportunities present themselves. Regardless of your industry or career level, learning how to write a resume and keeping it up to date is a terrific annual exercise.

LiveCareer’s selection of resume templates can provide inspiration for writing a new resume. Or, if you need help, our professional resume builder can help you create a well-written resume in a matter of minutes.

2. Make career planning a regular event

Find a day or weekend at least once a year and schedule time to truly focus on what you want out of your career. For me, the best time to do this is at the end of December, as we’re approaching the new year.

3. Reflect on your career path since your last career planning session

Research shows reflection increases productivity and performance. So take time to think about your current situation and the path you want to follow. Are you happy with your career path so far? What could you have done better or differently? What can you change in the future? When you understand yourself and what you really want, it’s a lot easier to create a plan that suits your goals and your lifestyle.

You can continue to experience career growth by investing in your career development. e.g. you can talk to your manager about job shadowing other employees in your company to learn about different jobs, or you can attend various training sessions and workshops. You can explore lateral moves to broaden your experience. Else find a mentor in a different department that you’d like to explore.

4. Reflect on what you like, dislike, need, and want from work

Our likes and dislikes change over time. Hence it’s always a good idea to reflect on what you feel strongly about in your life and career. Make a list of what you like and dislike about your job. Hopefully you still enjoy a lot of your work activities. But if that’s not the case, it might be time to start considering a new job or career.

It’s also important to have a clear and meaningful purpose that you find emotionally engaging. What do you really need from your work? To make a difference? To become financially independent?

5. Keep a record of your achievements

Most of us don’t keep a track record of work achievements; however, this is not only useful for building your resume, it’s also useful for career planning. Learning to track and write about your professional accomplishments will serve you well when working toward your next career goal.

6. Identify your transferable skills

Maybe your job title is Business Analyst but you have a huge amount of project management experience – skills that could be applied to other jobs. Think beyond your current job title. By considering your goals and how the skills you have now would be useful in a new role, you can make a difference. Make a list of relevant transferable skills to add to your resume.

Also, do some research on what skills you need to gain. If your goal is to become the VP of Finance, for example, what experience and skills do you need to gain in the next year, or in the next five years, to be qualified for that job title? Then create a plan for achieving your long-term career goal.

7. Set career goals

While you can be successful in your career without setting goals, you can be even more successful with goal setting. What are your short-term (within a year) and long-term (within five to 10 years) career goals? You probably already know about SMART (specific, measurable, attainable, relevant, and timebound) goals. Always write them down and share the list with someone. This will help you to create a sense of accountability.

Another big part of career planning is reviewing and adjusting these goals on a regular basis. Develop new goals once you accomplish your previous ones. So, each time you sit down for a career planning session, break out this list and review it.

8. Explore new education or training opportunities

Never miss a chance to learn and grow more as an employee and individual. Part of career planning is finding training opportunities, courses, or workshops that will help you further your career. If your company offers professional development opportunities, take advantage of them. This is free money and can be valuable in reaching your goals.

9. Leverage and learn from others

Build relationships with leaders within and outside of your organization, attend job-related conferences, and explore other events. The better your network, the more opportunities you have to learn from others who’ve enjoyed success. To find out more about other possible career options, you can conduct some informational meetings with colleagues or managers – people are generally willing to share advice if you ask.

10. Step out of your comfort zone

One of the best ways to advance your career is to identify and solve an organizational problem your company is experiencing. If you can identify a problem within your organization, propose a solution, and implement it, you will not only increase your visibility in the organization, but also expand your skills in the process.

Succeeding in a constantly changing workplace requires a career management plan. Employers always want to attract, hire, and retain employees who provide the best value. Think about yourself as a business with a product to sell and create a strategy for marketing your value in the workplace.

11. Research further career advancement opportunities

A fun part of career planning is picturing your career in the future. Where will you be in a year or in five years? While it’s impossible to plan everything, it’s always good idea to know where you’re going and what various career paths are available to you.

As employees progress in their careers, fewer jobs at more senior levels become available, yet continuing to grow your skills and experience should still be a priority.

You can continue to experience career growth by investing in your career development – e.g., you can talk to your manager about job shadowing other employees in your company to learn about different jobs, or you can attend various training sessions and workshops. You can explore lateral moves to broaden your experience or find a mentor in a different department that you’d like to explore.

Regularly reviewing and planning will make you better prepared for whatever lies ahead in your career. Steer your career deliberately, but also be open to life surprising you with new adventures even if they don’t exactly match the destination you had in mind.
