Madhuri Dixit has enthralled the audience with her acting skills for many years now. She is one of the most gifted dancers in Bollywood. She stayed away from limelight after getting married but she started from where he left after coming back to Mumbai. Fame Game – her new show on Netflix has generated a lot of buzz already.
Puja Talwar spoke to her on her journey so far and experience of working for an OTT platform. Here are the excerpts of the interview –
What is it really like being Madhuri Dixit?
I don’t think about it that way. I look at life in a different way. You can’t put yourself in a slot. I want to learn new things every day. I now want to learn tennis because my husband and kids play tennis. I don’t look at myself as an actress and star. I am a human being first – who is a mother, a daughter more than anything else. That’s the way I live life. If during that time, if I influence people, change someone and inspire people – then its case.
Continuous learning is the key to success
I go to set as a student even today. I want to learn something new on the set from people around me, from my co-stars. I don’t think about myself as someone who has spent so many years in the industry, instead I live in that moment.
New medium, new experience but same responsibility
Every time you do a role, you have to out your best foot forward. You have to be at your best. In today’s world, people may be watching you on a big or a small screen but you have to be performing well continuously. For me working on an OTT platform is a new experience, there is more time to tell your story, develop a character and that is why people binge watch because they get drawn into it. I think we have managed to do that in Fame Game to let people see our world and see what goes behind the curtain.

OTT platforms have changed the rules of the game
OTT platforms give you a chance to experiment a lot because they don’t have to deal with the pressures of box office collections. You can tell your story in a certain way, the way you want to make it and take through. You see so many watching Korean drama, someone if watching Spanish series and you get introduced to so many different varieties of film making, different cultures and you get inspired to experiment and they love doing it.
Women oriented stories used to be all about revenge but today women-oriented roles have got a different tone altogether. That has happened because of the scope of creativity that OTT platforms provide to filmmakers.
Its tough being a public figure in today’s age
Being a public figure has own challenges. You are at the airport struggling to figure out your luggage and people are insisting for a selfie. Everyone has a smartphone these days and getting a selfie with the people they admire may be a once-in-a-life opportunity. That is a problem but that’s the world we live in and we really can not complain about it.
Reuniting with Sanjay Kapoor was fun
We had a great camaraderie when we did Raja and its great to see how much he has grown as an actor. He has got many one-liners which cracks everyone up. We picked up from where we left. It was so much fin working with him after so many years.
