In March this year, one of Will Smith’s actions got him into serious trouble. Will Smith became highly infuriated on one of Chris Rock’s Joke on his wife Jada Pinkett Smith. In a fit of rage, Will slapped Chris Rock only to face 10 years ban from the Oscars later.
Year 2022 could not be referred to as a great year for Will Smith. He has been at the center of controversy for many reasons. At the Oscars presentation ceremony, Chris Rock’s Joke didn’t go down great with both Jada and Will Smith. That angered the latter so much that he slapped Chris on the stage, much to the surprise of everyone. This action led to his ban from the academy for as much as ten years. Will Smith’s first movie following the Slapgate scandal is a historical thriller
Following the infamous Slapgate scandal where Will Smith hit Chris Rock, there was no news of any of his movies. However, Will Smith’s first movie following the scandal, be soon coming up. It is a historical thriller ‘Emancipation’. Will plays the part of an ex-slave who escapes his captors. The plot of the movie has Peter, who Smith plays in the movie. Also, the movie shows him escaping pursuers to reach North and joining the Union Army. William N. Collage hand has written the movie and is based on real story of Gordon or ‘Whipped Slave’.
The image of his back, marked with scars of whipping, was one of the most remarkable photos of the Civil War era. Leading Hollywood personalities attended the screening. Singer Rihanna, comedian Dave Chappelle, actor-director Tyler Perry, rapper ASAP Rocky, among others were present. Smith showed his pictures along with the greats. Smith shared a picture on his Instagram that shows him and other luminaries at the screening. “EPIC night!! Thanx for coming to see #Emancipation. Hope ya’ll enjoyed!!” he wrote in the caption.
Emancipation release Date
‘Emancipation’ will release in US theatres on December 2 and shall release on Apple TV+ in the US and elsewhere from December 9.
