Late legendary actor Dilip Kumar was honored with Bharat Ratna Dr. Ambedkar Award yesterday. His wife and yesteryear actress could not control her tears while receiving the award. She broke down as she received the award from the Union Minister for Social Justice and Empowerment Ramdas Athawale. She justified her reason for not attending any honorary functions , as it makes her feel terrible. “This is the reason I don’t attend any functions because I feel terrible, but what do I do,” she said, wiping her tears.
Saira Banu compared Dilip Kumar with Kohinoor, said she feels his presence every moment
Although Saira Banu was 22 years younger to Dilip Kumar, yet the compassion and commitment was like a newly married couple. After Dilip was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s Saira Banu stood like a rock by his side attending to his needs. They would attend functions as she would take the initiative putting her husband in the limelight.
Saira Banu expresses her desire to bestow Bharat Ratna on Dilip Kumar
Expressing her regards and love for him, she said, “I feel he is still here, watching everything, being with me. He is not in my memories. He is with me at every step. I’ll be able to spend my life believing he is with me.” “I won’t even think that he isn’t, so that it’s easier for me to believe he is with me and shall always be my support, ‘mera kohinoor’,” she added. She also expressed the desire that the Government should award Dilip Kumar with the country’s highest honour Bharat Ratna, for in fact he was one , ‘KOHINOOR.’
