Gangubai Kathiawadi is all set to release in theatres and there is a lot of buzz already about the movie. Movie trailers have given a glimpse of yet another power packed performance by Alia Bhatt who plays the main protagonist in the movie. Alia has revealed how this film was a life changing experience for her and she has emerged as a different person altogether after completing the shooting for the film.

There are many interesting facts about the film which make it even more special. Lets take a look –

Fact #1 : Ganga Harjeevandas Kathiawadi was a native of Gujarat who earned a name for herself as one of Mumbai’s well-known and influential brothel owners in the 50s and 60s.

Fact #2 : Gangubai is said to have been a proponent of the rights of commercial sex workers and apparently lobbied with politicians on this issue.

Fact #3 : A film starring actor Alia Bhatt is facing legal trouble after individuals claiming to be family members of the main protagonist, Gangubai Kathiawadi, have objected to her portrayal in the film.

Fact #4 : Deepika Padukone was very keen to play Gangubai Kathiawadi.  But Bhansali decided against casting Padukone for this very reason: he wanted to experiment with a someone else who could do justice to the role.

Fact #5 : The film is very close to the director Sanjay Leela Bhansali for many reasons. It has been shot shot two streets away from where Bhansali lived during his growing years.

Fact #6 : There are two key meltdown sequences where Alia Bhatt has reportedly given a performance of her lifetime. It is expected that those two scenes will win her a national award.

Fact #7 : Ajay Devgan is another surprise in Gangubai Kathiawadi. He has played a cameo in the movie as gangster Karim Lala. People close the making of the movie claim that this is his most accomplished performance since Bhansali’s Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam.

Last few years have not been particularly good for the movie makers as theatres were shot because of pandemic induced restrictions. Now that the world slowly seems to be returning to normalcy, here is hoping that good days in Bollywood will return yet again with this movie.
