Mental Health of students has been one of the main topics of discussion these days. Lectures, Debates, Books and even movies and series have taken inspiration from the topic. Also, there have been certain unfortunate incidences, with many students yielding to this burden. It was thus no surprise that when the former World Champion cricketer addressed the ‘Champions of Aakash 2022’ and gave his views, fireworks were sure to happen. Former Cricketer Kapil Dev’s Comments to change ‘Pressure into Pleasure’ triggered debate on the debate. The ace cricketer might have touched on a sensitive topic that flared the argument. However, what he meant was, with pleasure, there should be no pressure. Here is the controversial video that sparked the debate.
Netizens gave mixed response to Kapil Dev’s comments on Pressure
While addressing the audience of the nation’s leading coaching institute Byju’s, Kapil Dev opened the discussion with topic of Pressure. He said that that Pressure and Passion cannot coexist. And the presence of one can automatically eliminate the existence of the other. Also, he added that while talking to so many IPL players, they bring the topic of pressure. So, here are the words of wisdom he has for them.
“I hear a lot of times on TV that there’s a lot of pressure on IPL players. Then I have only one thing to say: don’t play. If a player has passion, then there will be no pressure. I can’t understand these American words, like ‘pressure’ and ‘depression’. I come from a farming background, we played because we enjoyed the game.”

Besides the sportsmen, Kapil also touched on the student pressure students keep bringing up all the time. He mentioned those who are appearing for boards or competitive exams. The audience burst into laughter when he said that he doesn’t understand what pressure the kids of today feel. They go to Air-conditioned schools, Parents pay their fees, and lastly no teacher can punish them. He even joked,” Teacher Pehle Thappad Marte The, Aur Baad Main Batate The Ki Galti Kya Hai.’ This translates to, ” The Teacher hit us first, and then would tell our fault later.’ He advised them to enjoy what they do and then it won’t be a pressure.
While audience applauded Kapil Dev Comments, Former Indian cricketer differed
There were many however, who differed from the skipper’s views. Just a couple of days before, Indian captain Virat Kohli opened up on his struggles with mental health.
“I personally have experienced times when even in a room full of people who support and love me, I felt alone, and I am sure that this is a feeling that a lot of people can relate to.”
Kohli too shared his time suffering from Depression.
Virat also revealed how serious and demoralizing the mental health issue is. Additionally, he added, that it can really break an individual apart.
“It (mental health) is definitely a serious issue and as much as we try to be strong at all times, it can tear you apart.”
