Santoor maestro passes away, suffers cardiac arrest
Shiv Kumar Sharma, Indian music composer and Santoor maestro passes away. He passed away in Mumbai at 84. Since the last few months, he was suffering from kidney problems and was undergoing dialysis. He passed away a few hours before due to cardiac arrest. Leading dailies reported the passing away of the legend. Also political leaders have passed their sorrow over the loss of the maestro.
Date and Place of Birth
Born on 13 January 1938 in Jammu & Kashmir, the Santoor maestro started learning vocals and Tabla at age of five years. He started learning Santoor at age 13.
Shiv popularized Santoor, Sitar, Sarod and other traditional instruments
Sharma raised Santoor to a classical status and elevated it along with traditional and famous instruments like Sitar and sarod. Along with Pandit Hari Prasad Chaurasia he formed a pair who composed music for hit movies like Silsila, Lamhe and Chandni As one half of Shiv-Hari, he composed music with flute legend Pt Hari Prasad Chaurasia for an array of films such as Silsila, Lamhe and Chandni among others.
