Gone are the days when women were associated only with humanities and technology used to be a no go area for them. In last two decades Indian women have created a niche for themselves in the technology sector fighting against all odds. It all began with more and more women opting for Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics as main subjects in higher secondary education. The decision was directly linked to making the most of available opportunities in the fast emerging technology sector after reforms were introduced in Indian economy and India started emerging as global power in software industry from 1990s onwards.
It as taken a lot of perseverance and focus for the women to reach where they are in the technology space. On International Women’s Day, lets celebrate the success of the some of the key women who have become an inspiration for many women.

1.Neelam Dhawan
Neelam is an economics graduate from St Stephen’s College, Delhi University and an MBA from The Faculty of Management Studies, University of Delhi. She has been serving technology sector for close to 40 years. Her stint in leadership role with companies like HCL, IBM and Microsoft smashed a lot of prejudices against women. She has also created a lot of impact as a women leader in HP.
She believes that women could provide the best solutions to their business.
2.Vanitha Narayanan
Vanitha is an MBA from University of Houston. She was appointed as the MD of IBM India Private Limited in 2013. She has also served as the Vice President of Communication Sector, Asia Pacific and the Global Vice President for IBM’s telecom solutions. In 2017 Vanitha Narayanan was mentioned in Fortune India amongst the most powerful women. She also inspires many young women to be patient and humble at work.
3. Aruna Jayanthi
Aruna completed her master’s degree in management studies from NMIMS in 1984. She started her career with TCS, and later joined Capgemini as member of its core team, heading their Global outsourcing services. She takes care overall quality and profitably of the outsourcing services. She ranked 3rd in the Fortune India list.
4. Kumud Srinivasan
Kumud completed her Doctoral education in Information Science at the University of California, Berkeley. She joined Intel in 1987 where she was responsible for managing Intel’s operations across India. She also looked after the overall business strategy development, innovation for market development at Intel.
Her success mantra is simple – hard wok and determination .
5.Roshni Nadar Malhotra
Roshni Nadar Malhotra is an MBA from Kellogg School of Management. She is a legend in the technology space. She is currently the CEO and Executive Director of HCL Corporation, as well as the Vice-Chairperson of HCL Technologies, a Trustee of the Shiv Nadar Foundation, and the Founder and Trustee of The Habitats Trust. She was a successful NEWS producer at Sky News in the United Kingdom before joining HCL.
