PS-1 sets new Record: Mani Ratnam’s Movie Reaps 450 Crores

Mani Ratnam’s movie picked up after a slow start and has not looked back. In just 4 days the movie collections touch Rs 450 Cr and still look strong.

Mani Ratnam is a stalwart in his field, and he has proven it time and again. Whether it was romantic stories like Roja and Bombay or a touching story of a special child Anjali, the star filmmaker has put life into each character. The aura of him is such that when any of his movie hits the theatres, people definitely make it a must see. And it was the same thing witnessed as Aishwarya Rai Chiyaan Vikram starrer movie hit the theatres last Friday. In just matter of 4 days, PS-1 sets new record. The movie become one of the highest earning movies of the Tamil industry. Also, it collected over Rs 450 Crores worldwide, after getting a great start in the initial days of release. Audience has showered their love on the movie right from the start.

Mani Ratnam’s drama PS-1 sets new record, registers unbelievable collections

Ponniyin Selvan continues to hold its grounds and set new records. In just a matter of a couple of days it has reaped record collections. Mani Ratnam’s movie is based on the bestselling novel of Kalki with the same name. So far, the movie has performed exceptionally well. Also, PS-1 sets new record and turns out as the highest profit-making Tamil movie even in the United States. The movie has so far made $4.13 million in just 4 days of its release. Moreover, it has been the most profitable opening for a Tamil opening. Aishwarya’s come back movie double role both as Queen Nandini and her mute mother Mandakini Devi has definitely created a spell. Ponniyin Selvan is two parts historic drama. The filmmaker referred it as a liberating experience.

However, almost a decade later, the filmmaker is glad to release the historic drama in two parts. Talking about the long wait to make Ponniyin Selvan 1,“The long wait has been some sort of liberation. Ponniyin Selvan is a five-part book and it’s impossible to compress it in a single film. Not sure if we could’ve done justice had we done the film back then. Today, audiences are open to the idea of watching a film in parts or as a series. Honestly, it was easier to make Ponniyin Selvan now. Im glad Ponniyin Selvan didnt happen all these years because this is the right time.”

Mani Ratnam had previously tried to make the movie two times, but it just couldn’t see the light of the day. However, he is glad to release the first part of the two-part series. And why should he not be, the number speaks for themselves.
