Google Honoured Bhupen Hazarika With A Doodle

Search Engine Google is celebrating the 96th Birth Anniversary of celebrated singer with a special Doodle on its homepage.

Today is the Legendary Singer Bhupen Hazarika’s 96th Birth Anniversary. Considered as one of India’s greats, Bhupen Hazarika was an Assamese Indian singer, composer and filmmaker. He is credited for rendering music to many movies. Google Honoured Bhupen Hazarika for his contribution to the Music.

Affiliated with many boards and associations, that include the National Film Development Corporation (NFDC) Hazarika was born on September 8, 1926, in Assam. He grew up in the lap of songs and folk tales of one of India’s largest rivers Brahmaputra. His music journey of six years got him plenty of accolades. They included Sangeet Natak Akademi Award, the Dadasaheb Phalke Award, Padma Shri and Padma Bhushan, for his outstanding contribution to music and culture. Indian Government also bestowed Bharat Ratana posthumously in the year 2019.

It did not take long before Hazarika’s musical talents caught notice of renowned Assamese lyricist, Jyotiprasad Agarwala, and filmmaker, Bishnu Prasad Rabha. Both considered legends in their field as well, they assisted Hazarika to record the first song at the age of 10. At age 12, he wrote songs for two movies, Indramalati: Kaxote Kolosi Loi, and Biswo Bijoyi Naujawan. When Google honoured Bhupen Hazarika, it was a homage for a true art lover. A Political Science graduate of Benaras Hindu University, he went to study communications from prestigious Columbia University. Hazarika’s compositions involved stories about happiness and grief, of unity and courage, romance and loneliness, and even strife and determination, over time.

Bhupen won many awards such as the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award, the Dadasaheb Phalke Award, Padma Shri and Padma Bhushan, for his outstanding contribution to music and culture. Besides his contribution to social and cultural reforms is also well known. His contributions led to unity of people from all over. And that has forever made him immortal.
