Vijay Deverakonda and Ananya Panday starrer movie Liger hit the theatre screens on August 25.
With a popular star on board having a massive fanfare, the movie was expected to be superhit. However, it turned out exactly the opposite. Movie turned out a commercial failure with both the audience and the critics. Movie’s debacle at the box office has hit the producer. Liger Failure depressed Producer Charmme Kaur who blamed it on the rising popularity of the OTT platforms. She opened up to the Free Press Journal that the movie makers have to excite the fans with exciting content. This can entice them to visit the theatres, else the audience has now higher variety available online.

Vijay Deverakonda’s maiden Hindi film, Liger, suffered badly at the box office. Producer Charmme Kaur attributed the low response to the film to the rising popularity of the OTT platforms such as Netflix, Amazon Prime and Hotstar. Additionally she referred that the resultant effect is scary situation in the industry. Puri Jagannadh had written and directed the movie. Talking about the existing trend she said the following.
“THE whole family can watch the biggest budget films on television, and until you don’t really excite them, they aren’t coming to the theatres. But, this is not the case in Bollywood. In August, three Telugu films – Bimbisara, Sita Ramam, and Karthikeya 2 – did phenomenally well, which made Rs. 150170 crores. It happened in the same country. It is difficult to understand since it doesn’t mean people in the South are crazy for films. It is a scary and depressing situation.”

She also attributed Liger’s delay to the pandemic that threw challenge after challenge.

Liger is a sports drama that marks Vijay Deverakonda’s first collaboration with filmmaker Puri Jagannadh. The film stars Ananya Panday opposite to Vijay. Additionally the movie has Ronit Roy, Ramya Krishnan, Ali, Makrand Despande, and legendary boxer Mike Tyson, among others. The film was shot simultaneously in Hindi and Telugu.
