Chocolate

Although Chocolate is a guilty pleasure for humans, however the same can’t be said for your feline. Many dog lovers have told that chocolate is a poison for dogs, however it is the same for cats as well. One of the ingredients of cocoa beans from which chocolate is extracted is Theobromine.

Since cocoa beans are used extensively in the chocolates, the chemical ends up in them. Even a small dose of Theobromine can be poisonous for your cat. Any form of food made with chocolate such as pudding, ice cream shouldn’t be given even in small amount. Cats digestive system is more sensitive than humans and even a little chocolate can upset their stomach.

Chocolate has a chemical methylxanthines, that can cause vomiting, muscle tremors, increased body temperature, abnormal heart rhythm, seizures, diarrhea, abdominal discomfort, and increased thirst. If your food has chocolate components, it is advisable not to offer it to your cat.

Garlic and Onions are greatly consumed in Indian Cooking. They are food enhancers that elevate the flavour of the food. Shallots, Chives are known to damage the RBC’s of the cat. This is due to the presence of N-propyl disulfide and subsequently the reduction of Red Blood Cells causes Anemia. Ensure not to treat your cat with onion soup mix, garlic powder, and other foods having garlic and onions.

Cats who have from Anemia or low red blood cell count exhibit the symptoms such as weakness, lethargy, reduced appetite, orange to dark red urine, and pale gums. Alcohol is extremely dangerous for your cat. Intake of Alcohol can result in symptoms vomiting, Diarrhea, Tremors, Disorientation, Trouble breathing, Coma, and even death. Also consumption of raw dough causes bloating and production of alcohol in the belly. Should you suspect the cat has taken even slight alcohol, it is recommended to take it to the hospital.
